Zurich's Baur au Lac Offers 'In The Footsteps of Marc Chagall' Package
Chagall was a frequent guest who left his signature and sketches in the hotel's guestbook, and who was inspired to create some of his iconic images in his hotel suite.

Chagall created the images for five stained glass panels (1970) and the rosette (1978) for Zurich's Fraumunster ("Church of Our Lady") in his suite at the Baur au Lac. And the brilliant jewel tones used in his work - his signature cobalt blue, emerald green and spinel red - stained the suite's carpet, which had to be replaced after each of his visits.

Near the center of Zurich's charming Old Town on the banks of the River Limmat, the Fraumunster has been the spiritual home of Zurich's residents for over a millennia. Built in 853, it has served as a place of worship for Catholics (during its Romanesque and Gothic periods), Protestants (after the Reformation) and a Russian Orthodox Catholics (during the 1799 occupation).

The Russian-born Chagall discovered the art of stained glass in the 1950s and had already created pieces for the United Nations Building when he undertook the Fraumunster designs. He found the medium of stained glass to be a "transparent partition between [his] heart and the heart of the world."
