EXPLORE

Must-see sites in Buenos Aires include the Casa Rosada (known for the balcony from which Evita rallied the working class crowds), the Obelisk, Recoleta neighborhood/Recoleta Cemetery and Teatro Colón (closing in late October 2006 for renovation). Stroll the embassy and jacaranda-lined Avenida del Libertador to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts National Museum).

Buenos Aires is often described as "The Paris of South America" because of its wonderful café life. Absorb the true culture of the city by socializing in the outdoor cafés, passing the day in a park with an ice cream or maté, the local herbal tea; exploring the unique neighborhoods and taking in a tango show and soccer match.

Buenos Aires was named the first UNESCO World Heritage "City of Design" in August 2005. The Dorrego Market in the Colegiales neighborhood, is a converted parking garage that presents regular shows of local housewares and clothing designers. Nearby Palermo SoHo is jam-packed with boutiques selling clothes by young Argentine designers.

GETTING THERE

The easiest way to get around is via the huge fleet of yellow and black taxis; a trip across town will rarely cost more than 15 pesos.
