Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has invested over $50 million to update its facilities and services, enhancing the property. Opened in 1990 as Four Seasons Hotels' first resort, the property immediately set the standard for resorts that followed it into the company's portfolio, and quickly achieved the long-held distinction as Hawaii's first and only Mobil Five Star and AAA Five Diamond Resort. The property has updated its design, look, and feel, re-designed three restaurants, and renovated 380 rooms and suites. The resort added HD-ready LG 42-inch plasma TVs connected to DVD players with photo card slots as well as alarm clocks that host iPod and MP3 players. Surfboard-shaped writing desks feature pop-up electric panels equipped with outlets, and high-speed wireless Internet access is now available throughout the resort. The resort also modernized its in-room coffee and refreshment centers and updated the oversized bathrooms with new lighting, fixtures, marble tile, dark wood vanities and all-glass shower enclosures. One of the last transformations was changing the Pacific Grill into the recently opened Duo, featuring the dual choice of prime steak and seafood in a luxurious poolside garden setting.
The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has amassed a collection of contemporary Hawaiian fine art installed in the public areas, guest rooms and suites during a $50 million-plus remodel planned for completion June 2007. Art works include Marie McDonald's contemporary kappa, Toshiko Takeazu's ceramics and Michael Harada's unfinished kubuki masks The new art collection encompasses works from Hawaii's statehood in 1959 to present day. Featured in the 380 guest rooms and suites, corridors, lobby and lower lobby areas, the installation includes more than 280 original pieces of art, including paintings, sculptures, photography, master works on paper, ceramics, textiles, artifacts, wood vessels and feather lei from Hawaii artists.
