5 STAR LUXURY HOTEL • 61 ROOMS & SUITES The seductiveness of a historic residence...When the writer F. Scott Fitzgerald left the Tiberio Hotel in Capri in 1925, after having lodged there for a number of days, he shook the hand of the astonished chambermaid, who had made sure that there was always a bunch of freshly-cut flowers in the room of the illustrious guest, together with the inebriating scent of a basket of lemons. The Tiberio was the 'hotel de charme' of travelers during the Belle Epoque. And today the hotel is open for business once again, following a lengthy restoration designed to preserve the atmosphere that hearkens back to the soothing tranquility of Capri and its celebrated pleasures of idleness. The JW Marriott Capri Tiberio Palace Resort & Spa has already established itself as an oasis of well-being just a short stroll from the more mundane “piazza” of the world. The building that holds the Tiberio was constructed at the start of the 1900's. “The challenge was to bring the building back to its original state – explains architect Rosanna Coscia, who, together with a team of technical experts, handled the restyling – resurrecting the friezes, decorations and plays of perspective of that age. The lengthy effort began with research involving old photographs and faded postcards from the 1920's”. Naturally, the internal volumes and spaces have been completely rearranged to meet current international standards of hospitality, while each object of the decorating scheme recreates the atmosphere of a stately Mediterranean residence pulsing with the spirit of Capri. “The colors of the rooms, of the lobby, of the public spaces and the pool that faces out onto the gardens of Capri that slope down towards sea – explains interior designer Laura Franchi – embody a range of hues that play with the external light. The neo-classical lines of the furnishings hint at a past that is brought into the present only by its color.” Reigning over this ambience is the cuisine of the White Restaurant by Chef Manuele Catturuzza. “His cooking is constantly in movement – says Hotel Manager Roger Belletti, who can point to past experience in luxury hotels throughout the world, despite his young age – because it follows the seasons and the creative verve that serves to transform a simple fish into a dish able to seduce true gourmets”. The wines have a cellar all for themselves. “We have collected more than 600 labels – continues Mr. Belletti – both foreign wines and Italian labels, including select vintages from the Campania region. But our maison du vin includes one of largest lists available of select cognacs and armagnacs produced by small-scale vintners throughout France”. In April of 2006, the JW Marriott Capri Tiberio Palace Resort & Spa became the destination for a total 'remise in forme', with the opening of the Wellbeing Centre. Interpreted by architect Mauro Biagi as a space for the joining of different cultures of wellbeing, the Spa & Fitness is laid out on two levels: a Roman Bath with “wet” treatments and an area for beauty treatments and workouts. The rooms all have a view of the sea praised by poets and writers of every age. Sixty-one rooms, of which 19 are deluxe rooms, 25 executive rooms, 8 junior suites and 10 presidential suites. Each of the four floors features a different color, both inside the rooms and in the public spaces. All the walls are hand decorated, and the upholstery brings together the colors typical of the Capri tradition: navy blue, sky blue, green and cream. The floors are made of hand-painted and installed earthenware, together with parquet in light-shaded hues. The bathrooms, done in Italian marble, are enriched with mosaics. The overall effect produces elegant, harmonious settings capable of providing guests with the most fully relaxing experience possible.
