EXPLOREMahout Training, Elephant Trekking AIRPORTChiang Rai International Airport (CEI) HIGH SEASONJanuary GETTING THEREGuests arriving by commercial or private aircraft at Chiang Rai International Airport are greeted by Four Seasons guides who escort them to a waiting air-conditioned vehicle, where they are offered cold face towels and chilled mineral water. Down a quiet country road, through a village and across rice fields, the 75-minute drive ends at West Post, a small dock and sala (covered veranda). At West Post, guests are greeted by their Four Seasons Camp Host, who escorts them on the second part of their journey to the Camp on the Ruak River. On this magical 20-minute ride downriver on a luxurious, traditional long-tail boat, the Camp Host introduces guests to the area, giving them a brief history of the Golden Triangle and providing highlights of the short boat ride and other interesting local snippets. Upon arrival at the camp pier, the Camp Manager awaits. Guests are escorted to East Post, where they are offered refreshments, checked in and introduced to the Camp. With retired opium packhorses in tow bearing their luggage, guests take a stroll to their tents along a verdant, fern-abundant pathway with dramatic views of the jungle, river, and Burma beyond, just across the river. |
