14 of Fregate's 16 luxurious villas are spread along the cliff top offering spectacular ocean views, the remaining 2 are set amid lush tropical gardens, still offering ocean view. 13 villas are one bedroom villas, 2 have a second bedroom and one a mini spa or second bedroom.Each has a large living room with a small bathroom and outdoor shower, able to accommodate two children if required, and a separate elegantly decorated bedrooms with en suite bathroom and an outside shower. French doors open onto a big terrace, beyond which is a private pool with jacuzzi, king size day bed and a dining pavillion. Built from traditional materials such as native mahogany and African teak in a simple post-and-lintel style, the villas are topped off with dense thatched roofs. There's a fully equipped gym, a fresh water swimming pool, an extensive library and for children (5-12 years) the Castaway Kids Clubhouse offering a program during high season. You can mountain bike your way along trails that cross the island, go Hobie Cat sailing, book a sunset cruise or simply stay at home and have a massage on your deck. To help you discover the island unparalleled wildlife, island ecologists are on hand to guide hikes through the island's tropical jungles and along its rugged coastline. Instruction and certification in scuba diving and snorkeling is available at the PADI-certified dive center. To the north of Frégate is Chimney Rocks, one of many popular diving locations where you can explore the dazzling underwater world that encircles the island. The 47-foot luxury teak launch, Bemfujjo, is ideal for excursions out to sea, or you can go game fishing on the 37-foot Little Frégate Bird. Her sister vessel, the 43-foot motor yacht Frégate Bird, is also available for charter. Bring home your catch of the day and one of the chefs will serve it to you for dinner.

The Rock Spa - Opened in May 2004 and overing an area of 4,500 square metres nestled between the island's natural rocks, the Spa really does live up to its name. Of the 115 islands that make up the Seychelles, 42 are characterized by granite rock while the rest of them are founded upon coral. Even the journey to The Rock Spa is an experience. Steep roughly-hewed steps wind their way upwards between greyish black rocks, before you are treated to the wonderful panorama provided by the Spa facilities. It is a really meditative and enchanting location with sensual Asian Credo, characterized by water pools, lush vegetation and exotic architecture, which manages to remain true to the natural environment while containing contemporary elements.

GETTING THERE

20 minute flight to Fregate from Mahe. The island has a small airstrip for light aircraft and helicopters. You will be met on arrival at Fregate Island Private by your private butler and escorted to your villa, where an island buggy is put at your disposal for the entirety of your stay.

Weather: The Seychelles is a year-round destination. The climate is tropical and year-long warm between 26°C/79°F and 30°C/86°F.

From November to April: lack of strong winds; ideal, calm sea conditions and good underwater visibility favouring big game fishing, snorkelling and diving; period of highest humidity; rainy season with short, heavy tropical showers

From May to October: steady South East Trade Winds; rough sea conditions favouring sailing and windsurfing, but snorkelling, diving and fishing are less successful; the current of the sea can be very strong; humidity is at its lowest level; rain is less likely.
