Multi-award-winning gourmet getaway listed by New York Times as "Meals Worth the Price of a Plane Ticket."
Behind the classical facade of this complex which dates back to the 1800s, hides a beautiful symphony of vibrant color. Relais Don Alfonso 1890 is situated between Sorrento and Positano, in the very heart of the beautiful village of Sant'Agata Sui Due Golfi, which, as its name indicates, is located "between two gulfs" on the Amalfi Coast. Composed of three buildings, the hotel boasts a lush garden with gorgeous Mediterranean and semi-tropical flora. Proving to be one of the most innovative establishments in the region, the main historic building's classic style conceals a series of playfully colored suites. The common areas of the Relais Don Alfonso 1890 are styled with antique furnishings, which are reminiscent of the ancient origins of the Iaccarino family's estate. The pastel colors of the suites are inspired by the tones of Mediterranean flowers which bloom profusely on the Amalfi Coast. The garden, the swimming pool, and the patio, all located on the estate, are reminiscent of the old Neapolitan villas of the 1800s. The cellar was carved from volcanic stone and dates back to the Osco-Roman age. It stores some of the most prestigious wines in the world. A cooking laboratory, the latest creation of the Iaccarino family, hosts cooking classes, private dinners or meetings in a welcoming atmosphere which was designed to mirror the Neapolitan kitchens of the past, where the majolica of Vietri (decorated Italian earthenware) meets modern technology.

"This restaurant (donalfonso.com) is a winding six-mile ride from Sorrento, near the Isle of Capri on Italy's Mediterranean coast. But it's been celebrated by gastronomes like the late New York Times reporter R. W. Apple Jr., who included it in his 2006 list of "Meals Worth the Price of a Plane Ticket." On a ridge between the Gulfs of Naples and Salerno, the Iaccarino family's farm grows lemons, grapes, olives and vegetables, which they use at their nearby restaurant. There, Alfonso and Ernesto, father and son, consistently reference the Sorrento landscape and its history in the seasonal menu. Last year, for example, early spring diners were offered grilled spring kid, red mullet with caper powder, and steamed octopus couscous with Provola cheese foam and cinnamon." - NY Times, read full article: 10 Restaurants Worth Leaving the Ship For
