What began as the private estate of Delos Willard Cooke, a New York industrialist and financier who was the nephew of J.P. Morgan, and his wife Florence on 65 acres among a citrus grove and date palms in 1929 has become one of the most iconic and treasured resorts in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. The Cooke’s modeled their winter haven, “El Vernadero,” after their beloved grand European adventures, and the estate eventually became Royal Palms Inn in 1948. Over the years, Royal Palms transitioned into the timeless resort it is today, and continues to honor its rich history by preserving the original architecture and offering complimentary guided history tours of the estate.
