Colonial Comforts at Highlands Country House in Cape Town

Colonial Comforts at Highlands Country House in Cape Town
Built in 1900, this beautifully restored Herbert Baker manor combines all the charm of a bygone era with up-to-the-minute mod-cons and excellent service.

This is not an “over-the-top” five-star property but it will surprise you. Tastefully decorated the 14 rooms are beautifully different. All are extremely comfortable and spacious and most have balconies.

Those in the garden boast private patios with table & chairs which perch under shady creepers and make you feel that the garden is there just for you. The impeccable, manicured garden has an abundance of white roses, lavender bushes and perfectly clipped hedges and topiaries. Even the herbs for the kitchen have their own special area, growing between baby tomato plants.

The number of cozy seating areas in the garden will lure you with your book or for afternoon tea or perhaps you will spend the day at one of the 2 swimming pools.

The friendly service of the staff deserves special mention, and whether you take hot or cold milk with your coffee they have the knack of remembering the details of your preferences. It goes without saying that reservations for excursions or restaurants are efficiently made and organized by Highlands reception.

Highlands' proximity to attractions such as the stunning Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or the traditional Wine Farms in Constantia Valley is a great advantage, but even the beaches or the center of Cape Town are a mere 20 minutes away. Still once you are at home at Highlands you may not feel like leaving at all. Delicious meals are prepared throughout the day and candlelit dinner on the terrace or in the original dining room allows you to wind down, relax and plan your next day in Cape Town, South Africa's Historical Mother City.
