Interview with the General Manager of vigilius mountain resort
What is unique about your hotel's location?

The ecological design hotel vigilius mountain resort is elegantly embedded in the surrounding landscape of the car-free Vigiljoch mountain in South Tyrol. Accessible by cable car within a few minutes from the village of Lana in the Isarco valley, the hotel features a marvellous view of the distant Dolomites, UNESCO world heritage from June 2009, and the surrounding mountain scenery and larch woods.

What authentic local experiences will guests have access to?
They will have the possibility to experience our Parlour Ida, which embodies cosiness and tradition. The warm, hundred-year-old tiled stove, and the typical South Tyrolean interior reflect the local history. The lunch menu likewise offers traditional dishes, down-to-earth and genuine delicacies from the region – and in the afternoon, home-made cakes are offered in the cosy parlour or outside on the attached sun terrace, with a splendid view of the Dolomites. The viglius wine cellar harbours a delicate choice of wines from South Tyrol and the Alps, as well as Italian and international wines.

Guests will find antique furniture and a traditional living area in the suites and Trehs (local producer) toiletries in all the rooms. At the vigilius mountain spa they may try the haybath, the vigilius apple polenta peeling or the Trehs mountain pine intensive care, which are all local spa treatments and worth trying them out. Guests may try also the "Rumpler" game at the piazza lounge, which is a traditional board game from the Ulten valley. Last but not least they will meet staff members from the cable car and the vigilius which are South Tyroleans…

What are some amazing things that your Concierge can arrange?

For a special thrill our guest relations team can arrange paragliding from the Vigiljoch mountain with amazing view on the Burggrafenamt.

Does your hotel have a philosophy?

Yes: Arrive, release, rejoice. Simple terms for a precious idea – open up, and draw new vigour and energy from the placid wisdom of nature. The vigilius mountain resort is like an island in the mountains, located above Merano. Distant views enable an unobstructed view of oneself, while trifles are left behind in the valley.

As authentic and open as the mountain itself are its dwellers. Here, at 1500 meters altitude, fifty staff members from different nations come together – dedicated to the desire to be your personal host: as their hearts tell them to do.

The vigilius mountain resort, as a "wooden house of modernity," has been committed to its ecological approach from the very beginning. It is manifested in a genuine and deep-felt respect for the environment and the surrounding nature; and is realized in all areas – from the nature-based construction methods to the sustainable use of local resources.
