Shakti Ladakh Announces New Indus River House Opening Summer 2016
Surrounded by the rich green floodplains, The River House and her smaller 3 bedroom sister, The Indus Farmhouse on the opposite bank (completed June 2015) offer retreats for large families and groups of friends looking to slow down, explore Ladakh's culture and landscape, and simply ‘be'. Both houses have stunning views across to the Stakna, Matho and Thiksey monasteries and the beautiful, snow-capped peaks of the Stok Kangri mountain range.

A perfect destination for families, the opening of the new houses on the Indus, show Shakti Himalaya's true commitment to tradition rescuing dilapidated homes in this remote region. Saved from near ruin and restored in an authentic Ladakhi style, the homes are minimalist yet sophisticated in style, using local woods, natural materials, and Buddhist iconography. Colours are neutral so as not to detract from the wonderful views outside. Inside the bedrooms are kitted out with superb mattresses, fine cotton sheets and fluffy duvets. Bathrooms contain soothing bath products, perfect for the dry Ladakhi climate.

Also new for the 2016 season, Shakti Ladakh announces new experiences including:

• Yoga and meditation with a Monk trained at the Mahabodhi Centre – an international centre for meditation
• Dedicated activities for children including spending a day with a younger monk
• Visiting a monk's home for lunch
• New exciting camping and hiking routes for all levels
• For those interested in alternative medicine/naturopathy you may visit the local Amchi / Tibetan medicine man. He will listen to your pulse and tell you about your ailments and prescribe herbal Tibetan medication

Situated in the far north of the sub-continent, over 3500 meters up on the high plateau, Ladakh is often referred to as ‘Little Tibet'. With a high altitude desert dominated by rugged snow capped mountains and deep turquoise lakes it is one of the most picturesque places on earth. Shakti Himalaya has designed a 'village house' experience that takes you off the beaten track to untouched villages in the Indus valley to an area not yet on the radar of the adventurous luxury traveler. Delicious, authentic dining aids recovery after a day's walking through the villages and landscapes of these remote mountain regions. Accompanied by local porters and guides, guests will walk between villages, visit local schools, temples, monasteries and markets, to get a full understanding of the culture of Ladakh, its people, religion and customs. The walks are the perfect antidote to the frenetic world that most of us live in, and can be completely tailored to suit the pace and fitness of the traveler. Shakti also offers camping in isolated but beautiful locations, with the chance to spend the night in a tented camp under some of the clearest night skies to be found in the world. River rafting is also offered on the Indus and Zanskar rivers for the more adventurous guest.
