The St. Regis Mexico City Debuts Christmas Nutcracker Tea Ritual
Families are invited to enjoy the timeless tradition by feasting on delectable pastries by renowned Mexican Celebrity pastry chef Paulina Abascal and an impeccable selection of refined Dammann Frerès teas at Glass House Café from December 1 until January 15, 2018.

Rituals are an integral part of St. Regis and are celebrated differently by each hotel in the portfolio. It is believed the custom Afternoon Tea originated in the mid-1800s by the Duchess of Bedford and was adopted by "The" Mrs. Astor (mother of the St. Regis founder, Colonel John Jacob Astor IV). For her, afternoon tea was a joyful occasion and an opportunity to host her closest friends as a prelude to her great galas. Teatime remains a quintessential St. Regis tradition, and the thematic adaptations of The St. Regis Mexico City are an expected and much loved celebration for guests of the emblematic hotel.

Designed exclusively for the hotel by Chef Abascal, the delicious pastries of the Nutcracker Tea Ritual will captivate all “Nutcracker” enthusiasts with works of art, featuring The Nutcracker, The Dancer, The King Mouse, and even more Christmas figures embodied in the cookies and cakes. Guests have the option of enjoying the delicacies at Glass House Café or take them home for a more intimate celebration with friends and family. Additionally, guests are offered an exquisite selection of Dammann Frères teas, such as Jardin du Luxembourg, Vanille, Macaron Mangue Jasmin and Quatre Fruits Rouges, and are available either hot or cold.

"I'm very excited to create special moments for families through my pastries with a Tea Ritual inspired by ‘The Nutcracker,’" said Paulina Abascal, chef and director of Dulces Besos bakery. "Christmas is a time to share with loved ones, and what better way to do so than with a cup of tea and desserts prepared with love for The St. Regis Mexico City, my favorite place to celebrate special occasions.”

“The Nutcracker and the King of Mice” is a classic tale written in 1816 by Ernest Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann. The story commences with Marie Stahlbaum’s new toy, the Nutcracker, which she receives as a Christmas gift. The toy comes to life, and, after defeating King Mouse in battle, the Nutcracker takes Marie to a magical kingdom populated by dolls. Alexandre Dumas’ version, from which the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Chaikovsky and the choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov based their versions, have made “The Nutcracker” the most famous ballet around the holidays.

Prior to the “Nutcracker”-inspired pastries, guests partaking in the Nutcracker Tea Ritual will enjoy finger sandwiches made of: tomato, salmon and cream cheese accompanied by a mini tomato and arugula tartlet, and a mini spinach quiche, followed by classic scones accompanied by sour cream and jam.
