Why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Chose Skiing for their Family Break
That’s right; Kate and William took two-year-old Prince George and ten-month-old Princess Charlotte on a European ski trip – and, as ever, someone was there to capture the event.

Taking a photographer with them to snap the young family in action, Kate and William decided to travel without letting the British media know about their plans.

Of course, this resulted in a huge privacy row, causing the story to pop up on Facebook, Twitter and pretty much every online news site out there. Their short and sweet break got us thinking: ‘what prompted the couple to choose a ski resort in the alps as their preferred spring holiday?

Here are just a few reasons we think they might have shunned a private, sunny island for all the fun of the snowy ski slopes:

It Offered Real Privacy – As a young family very much in the spotlight, we bet Kate and William love the opportunity to be together minus the camera flashes of the paparazzi. Sure, they did take their own photographer but simply as a means of capturing a few, rare and sentimental snaps of the four of them enjoying relatively ‘normal’ family time.

While bundled up in their ski wear – hats and goggles do a great job of concealing your face, after all – the Duke and Duchess could get down to the serious business of skiing. Having since complained about the media invading their privacy, the couple no doubt wanted to avoid the inevitable flash of the camera, particularly where their young children were concerned.

Staying in the pretty Alpine village of Courchevel, the pair headed to the resort known to attract A-list celebs and fellow royals – and they wasted no time in taking in their surroundings and making the most of the slopes. Seen having lunch at a local mountain restaurant, according to some locals, Kate and William complemented their time on the piste with some traditional apres-ski socializing.

The Ski Resort’s Location Meant a Long Weekend with Kids Was Achievable – If you’ve ever tried to travel with kids in tow, you’ll know it isn’t easy. Tantrums can mean long haul flights can be almost impossible, yet thanks to the ease of which you can jet off to a European location like the Alps, this would never have been an issue for the royals. Ski breaks offer so much more than a chance to try your hand (or feet!) at skiing, too, with a great many things to do in and around your ski chalet.

It Was a Rare Chance for the Kids to Experience Snow – According to a piece on the Daily Mail website, the skiing break marked the first time Prince George had seen snow – and everyone knows little ones love the chance to build snowmen, have a snowball fight or just trudge around on the soft ground.

In the photos taken by the family photographer, there’s no denying little George looks delighted to be in the snow, while William and Kate are also seen frolicking outside and enjoying a playful snowball fight.

And, of course, no ski break would be complete without a cozy evening spent in a beautiful chalet – and we’re sure the family loved kicking off their ski boots to warm their toes by the fire. Privacy issues aside, doesn’t everyone deserve some time away from it all every once in a while? Let us know what you think…
