Dunton Hot Springs Offers Easy Access to Colorado's Only Active Geyser
Colorado's only active geyser located high in the San Juan Mountains, the geyser bubbles and erupts every 45 minutes or so into the adjacent creek. Hikes are led by Dunton's resident expert guide BoJo Post, who prides herself on being able to arrive just as the geyser starts to fizz. An additional guide on the hike is BoJo's trusty beagle Omally, who joins on most hiking trips.

This challenging and exciting hike is usually an added cost; but this summer, adventurers will be able to join the weekly scheduled hike for no extra charge. The excursions will also include a gourmet picnic lunch prepared by Dunton Hot Springs' "cowboy chef," David Miller. Picnic baskets may include a Roasted Beef Striploin sandwich with fresh horseradish goat cheese and roasted cipollini onions on grilled sourdough - served with homemade kettle chips, local fruit and fresh lemonade with Dunton's own mint.

Opened in 2001, Dunton Hot Springs resort is a restored ghost town set in an extraordinary alpine valley. The town's original 19th-century "Wild West" log cabins have been transformed into 12 romantic and luxurious accommodations. Its spa is fed by natural mineral hot springs that have been curing body and soul for centuries, ideal for de-stressing from the myriad activities available to guests. And the town's old saloon is now a world-class restaurant serving organic fare paired with award-winning wines produced by the resort's own Sutcliffe Vineyards.
