Tanjong Beach Club, the pioneer of urban beach culture, returns to the shores of Singapore’s best strip of sand, bolder and better than ever. First opened in 2010 with the mission of fostering an appreciation for beach culture in an island city that, ironically, lacked one at the time, the beach club is now making its comeback after a 4-month hiatus. The revamped Tanjong Beach Club is doubling down on its original vision—this time on an even larger scale—with fresh interiors, new menus, and exciting programming.
“It’s fascinating that despite being islanders by geography, we Singaporeans often see ourselves more as city dwellers. In the bustle of daily life, reconnecting with nature and savoring the present moment can feel like a rare luxury. We hope that Tanjong Beach Club, with its vibrant energy and effortless coastal charm, offers a space for people to embrace a sense of freedom and joy—even if only for a few hours. Whether it’s a quiet moment by the beach or dancing with the sand between your toes, this is your perfect escape, whatever that means to you,” says Wee Teng Wen, Managing Partner of The Lo & Behold Group.
Wood-Fired Coastal Cuisine
Tanjong Beach Club debuts a brand new food programme led by Head Chef Mong Zhen Yew (formerly of Osteria Mozza, Spago), in consultation with Vallian Gunawan (ex-head chef of Skool Kitchen Bali). Here, the classic barbecue by the beach is elevated to wood-fired coastal cuisine fit for even the most discerning epicureans. At the heart of the kitchen is a Mibrasa grill, fueled by a medley of ironbark, binchōtan, and applewood, lending an irresistible touch of fire and smoke to the entire menu.
Highlights include Smoked Hokkaido Scallop Aguachile ($34) which offers a harmonious blend of smokiness and citrusy brightness with finger lime, apple gel and radish; Dry-aged Barramundi ($36 filet, $78 whole)—dry-aged on the bone for up to a week—paired with tomato vierge and caperberries; Wood-fired Half Chicken ($36) marinated in red mojo—a blend of peppers, smoked paprika, fennel, adobo chillies, confit garlic, and breadcrumbs—is finished over smoldering embers and served with yoghurt crema and blistered shishito peppers.
Perfect for sharing, the Woodfired Flatbread ($22) is made with semolina, flour, and potato, fired until crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, then topped with n’duja, mussels and stracciatella. Even desserts embrace the flame, house-made smoked milk ice cream pairs with a muscovado butterscotch drenched Sticky Date Pudding ($18) for a bold finale to any meal.
Where beach grub often plays second fiddle to the allure of the sun, sand, and sea, the menu at Tanjong Beach Club evokes the feeling of an indulgent island getaway, with dishes that feel equally at home in a destination-worthy dining room or on a breezy, sun-soaked daybed. Nibble on the Coppa & Cantabrian Anchovy Tartine ($21) on a flame-kissed slice of sourdough bread lathered with echire butter, or graze on the Mezze Platter ($38), featuring warm pitas and falafel paired with a smorgasbord of fresh vegetables, served alongside dill aioli dip and smoked white bean hummus. For the ultimate treat, opt for the chilled Seafood Tower ($248), brimming with Maine lobster, freshly shucked oysters, prawns, Venus clams, and smoked Hokkaido scallops. Fuel daytime dancing with the Lobster and Tabbouleh ($32), featuring sundried tomatoes and pomelo on a bed of fluffy couscous or for something more indulgent, Oysters can be enjoyed either freshly shucked with yuzu mignonette ($24/3pcs $46/6pcs) or grilled ($27/3pcs or $52/6pcs) with a sliver of Mangalica lardo and garlic butter.
Beach-Friendly Beverages For Every Occasion
The refreshed beverage programme places Champagne and large-format magnums at center stage, perfect for sun-drenched afternoons that flow into high-energy nights. The expanded Champagne selection spotlights both iconic producers and rising stars, with exclusive-to-Tanjong Beach Club magnums like Gounel-Lassalle Esprit Voyageur ($320) setting the tone for effortless indulgence. Beyond bubbles, the wine list also leans into food-friendly selections, designed to complement the club’s refined yet laid-back coastal dining experience.
No beach escape is complete without a cocktail in hand, and in collaboration with Cat Bite Crew, the masterminds behind the winner of Campari’s One To Watch 2024, Tanjong Beach Club’s cocktail menu captures the bold, sun-soaked spirit of the club, offering vibrant, refreshing pours that seamlessly transition from day to night. The Tanjong Coast ($25) is a crisp blend of Hendrick’s gin, guava, ginger, and cucumber tonic, designed for all-day beachside lounging. Mai Tide ($23) offers a tropical twist, mixing pandan-infused golden rum with coconut, white peach, orgeat, and pineapple bitters, delivering a smooth, layered sip. For those who crave a fiery morning revival, Mary’s Little Secret ($23) elevates the Bloody Mary with celery, vodka, and the club’s signature spiced tomato mix. Meanwhile, the Weekend at Margie’s ($23) delivers a complex punch of tequila, Aperol, passionfruit, butterfly pea, and firewater bitters, keeping the good times rolling.
Design & Form
Tanjong Beach Club’s design balances heritage with evolution, resulting in a space that feels both nostalgic and distinctly modern. Conceived by Sydney-based Akin Atelier—known for their work across Australia's leading hospitality group, Merivale (AU) and popular Bali Beach Club, Mrs Sippy (ID)—the design offers a fresh take on the mid-century modernist beach house architecture of the existing building. Elements including the existing breeze block wall and repetition of circular apertures helped to create a cadence and influence design decisions.
The club unfolds across distinct yet fluid zones that evolve as the day changes in light and in energy, each one offering a fresh vantage point of the beachfront. These zones offer a high level of flexibility underpinned by colour palettes that intensify in vibrancy and texture as you approach the shoreline. Located on Singapore’s best stretch of sand, Tanjong Beach Club takes an approach that complements rather than competes with its surroundings—allowing playful, energetic moments to highlight the beach’s natural beauty. A neutral palette provides the foundation, with pops of terracotta, orange, red, and yellow introduced through beach umbrellas, sun loungers and plush daybeds to create contrast against the lush greenery and ocean.
At its heart, the iconic infinity pool anchors the club with its sage and white checkerboard tiles, a playful nod to the existing square breeze blocks, adding a dynamic, almost animated quality as the water moves across them. The pool is framed by swaying palm trees and lined with custom daybeds in bold pops of colour—setting the scene for effortless, all-day lounging.
The Dining Room hums with the warmth of a wood-fired grill, its design intentionally more subdued, with warm hues and natural stone flooring, with bifold doors creating a seamless transition to the outdoors. The main bar, a vibrant gathering spot, features an understated palette accented by breeze blocks. Bar tables and stools spill onto the pool terrace, where terracotta-hued loungers invite guests to sink into long, languid afternoons by the water. Now, the bar extends into the VIP Lounge and newly minted dance floor, creating even more room for revelry.
The landscaping, envisioned by botanical design studio This Humid House, infuses a Singaporean context with the breezy allure of Miami Beach and the sculptural drama of a Palm Springs landscape. A dynamic mix of tropical cacti and native flora creates a setting that feels both thoughtful and unexpected, with a touch of glamour.
To weave a distinct artistic thread into the space, Tanjong Beach Club partnered with local artist Aeropalmics to create Seed & Shore—a flowing mural that stretches across the dining room, alfresco grill area, and the main bar. Inspired by the organic rhythm of the coast, its fluid forms and desert succulents mirror the ever-shifting dance between land and sea. Textured with actual sand, the piece deepens the club’s coastal narrative, embodying the spirit of the shoreline. This collaboration reflects Tanjong Beach Club’s dedication to local artistry, shaping an immersive space where culture, design, and nature exist in effortless harmony.
