Abercrombie & Kent Opens New Office in Kigali, Rwanda
“I first visited Rwanda in 1969 and it is wonderful that all these years later to see Rwanda becoming a luxury travel hotspot, with abundant wildlife and the verdant landscapes of the West African jungle meeting the East African savannah,” explains Abercrombie & Kent founder, chairman and CEO Geoffrey Kent. “Our guests are drawn to Rwanda by the chance to see critically endangered mountain gorillas in the cloud forests of Parc National des Volcans. But there is so much more. The reintroduction of lions and eastern black rhino into Akagera National Park is a conservation success story. The chimpanzees and canopy walkway in Nyungwe Forest are not to be missed. And I have always thought of Lake Kivu as one of the most peaceful and tranquil places in all of East Africa.”

Rwanda complements an East African safari that includes Uganda, Tanzania or Kenya. Direct flights between Johannesburg and Kigali also make Rwanda a convenient extension to safaris in southern Africa.

Gorilla tracking appeals to travelers with an adventurous spirt and those who have visited other safari destinations. Nyungwe Forest is one of the oldest forests in Africa and is home to 13 different primate species, as well as more than 300 bird species -- 16 endemic to the forest -- and more than 75 different mammal species. Akagera National Park is a quintessential East African safari park, filled with a diversity of landscapes and wildlife.

“A&K’s new office in Kigali is part of a commitment to expand our network of on-site offices around the world,” says Abercrombie & Kent Executive Vice-President, Destination Management, Jonathan White. “We believe a local presence is essential to deliver the kind of guest experiences that earn A&K recognition from travel professionals, including the just-announced Travvy Award for Best Escorted Tour Operator in Africa.”

The new Abercrombie & Kent office in Kigali has been taking bookings for gorilla tracking and Rwandan safaris for the past few months and will be hosting its first guests in February 2018.
