Casa Palopo Becomes First Relais & Chateaux Hotel in Guatemala
Perched on the shore of Lake Atitlán in the Guatemalan highlands, Casa Palopó offers an exclusive, high-end getaway for sophisticated travelers who value a rich dose of culture with their vacation experience. Each of the boutique hotel’s nine accommodations offers brightly colored stucco walls, an original collection of Latin American artworks, handcrafted antique furniture and private terraces with uninterrupted views of the lake and the three majestic volcanoes across the shore.

Casa Palopó’s in-house restaurant, 6.8 Palopó, is run by 23-year-old Chef and Sommelier Marcela Jongezoon Bosch, whose seasonal menus are inspired by a passion for culinary technique and precision, local Guatemalan cuisine and international wines. At 6.8 Palopó, the al fresco experience is transformed as guests are invited to dine on the veranda from where they can admire small boats making their way across the lake, and in the evenings, sit quietly alongside colorful candelabras and twinkling lights from Mayan towns that line the shore.

Guests enjoy an intimate, harmonious experience at Casa Palopó’s Balinese-inspired boutique spa, expansive pool deck, wellness room with fitness equipment, library, and expansive terrace, among the hotel’s other amenities. The hotel was originally built as a private lakeside home, turned into a boutique hotel in 2000, and purchased by the current owner – Guatemala native and entrepreneur Claudia Bosch – in 2010. Day to day operations and overseen by property managers Isabelle & Didier Torchut of France.
