Discover a Stunning Baroque Palace in Spain

El Palace Barcelona and its owner, Royal Blue Bird, are offering a new, exclusive two-day experience that will allow guests to discover Palacio Domecq, an 18th century family-owned Baroque palace with one of the longest winemaking legacies in Spain, and immerse themselves in the colorful and deep-rooted traditions that Jerez de la Frontera offers.

Palacio Domecq is one of the finest example of 18th century Baroque architecture in Jerez de la Frontera, dating back to 1778. The Palacio has a quadrangular floor plan, a large central courtyard featuring Italian marble columns, and a three-storey façade dotted with majestic balconies that boast some of the best views of Jerez. Fine paintings, tapestries, sculptures, and natural materials have been brought in from Italy, Flanders, and France to create an exceptional artistic and cultural collection.

Royal Blue Bird is dedicated to offering tailor-made experiences for guests to delve deeper into the local and regional culture. Local cooking classes, traditional dances, making or selecting a flamenco dress, and finding the perfect manila shawl, Royal Blue Bird endeavours to make it all possible.

This premium two-day experience is perfect for anyone who seeks to discover authentic Andalusian life. Exclusive and unique, this special trip and itinerary includes:

  • Guided tour of the Palace by a member of the Domecq family. Within the Palace’s gates, visitors will discover stunning examples of Baroque architecture and experience the family’s rich traditions which have left their mark on Jerez de la Frontera and the wider world.
  • Evening 1: Guests will enjoy a typical Jerez tapas dinner, complete with a 30-minute private flamenco show in one of the palace’s most extraordinary settings. Jerez is considered the birthplace of flamenco, which is recognised by UNESCO as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.
  • Evening 2: Guests will indulge in a dinner featuring recipes from the Palace’s archives, including Jerez-style cream of artichoke soup and Palacio Domecq’s rice with prawns.
  • Sherry tasting with the Mora-Figueroa Domecq oenologist. Experience the family's winemaking tradition by sampling a carefully selected variety of sherries and brandy de Jerez. Delicious and versatile, these sherries are considered oenological treasures.
  • A horse-drawn carriage ride through the historic centre of Jerez de la Frontera. Alongside sherry and flamenco, Jerez is also known for its horses, and even boasts its own local breed. Jerez is home to several equestrian facilities, including the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre (Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art), which is internationally renowned as the guardian of the Andalusian horse breed.
  • Two typical Andalusian breakfasts. Guests will be welcomed by the smell of freshly ground coffee as they walk through the gallery that leads to the main dining room. Freshly squeezed juice made from home-grown oranges and mandarins, and jam made on-site in the Palace’s kitchens, will be served alongside grated tomatoes, avocados, and honey from Las Lomas, as well as artisan bread and extra virgin olive oil from Jaén. Tortas de aceite (Spanish olive oil cake), croissants, pestiños (sweet Spanish fritters), and torrijas (Spanish-style French toast) will add a sweet note to the morning.

** At an extra cost, there’s also the option to arrange an exclusive visit to the bodega where the family keeps their private collection of rare brandy.

As part of this collaboration, Mora-Figueroa Domecq sherries are served at El Palace Barcelona, both in the Great Hall and the Rooftop Garden. This taste of Jerez will arrive at Barcelona’s oldest five-star hotel under the name “Tornería Edición Palacio Domecq” and celebrates the unique winemaking tradition that began on the streets adjacent to Palacio Domecq together with El Palace Barcelona’s 100-year-old luxury heritage.

The “Tornería Edición Palacio Domecq” sherries will introduce El Palace Barcelona’s guests to the Domecq family’s centuries old fortified-wine making traditions and highly prized sherries, including Amontillado, Oloroso, Cream, and of course, Palacio Domecq’s famous Brandy de Jerez. The fortified wines will give guests the opportunity to fall in love with the salty iodine flavours provided by the white Albariza soil, as well as the delicate smokey aroma of dried fruit and aged wood derived from the ageing process. When it comes to Brandy de Jerez, none are more aged or pure than those which the Mora-Figueroa Domecq family keeps in their barrels. Several different vintage brandies are selected to produce a final rich blend, resulting in exceptional vintage gran reserva brandy that’s been aged for around 40 years.

Price: From from €10,000€ for two nights at Palacio Domecq with the above mentioned inclusions. Flights and transfers not included.
