How to Choose the Best Towels like in Hotels?

A high-quality towel absorbs moisture well and dries quickly, pleasant to the touch and retains its appearance for a long time. To choose one, you need to pay attention not only to the material of manufacture.

Together with partners, we founded a brand of home textiles. We'll tell you what to look for when choosing bath towels, beach and kitchen towels.

Bath towel: choose a thick one

By the density of the bath towel, you can understand how well it absorbs moisture. The more fibers per square centimeter of fabric, the better. Density is indicated on the label in grams per square meter.

The average density of towels is 350–750 g/sq. m. Optimal for baths - from 500 to 750 g / sq. m. Towels of lower density absorb less, but dry faster.

The length of the pile also affects the ability to absorb moisture. For the bathroom, I recommend choosing towels with a pile of 5 mm: a shorter one absorbs moisture worse, and too long wears out quickly.

According to The Bedspread Shop, the best material for a bath towel is cotton. It is durable and pleasant to the body. It is worth considering that the quality of cotton may be low: this is indicated, for example, by a hard and crumpled pile.

Beach towel: pay attention to size

The larger the towel, the more comfortable it is to lie on it right on the sand - the largest are called beach sheets. If you sunbathe on a sunbed, this is not necessary - long enough, but not wide.

I do not recommend choosing very thick beach towels: sand is clogged in them, which is extremely difficult to get rid of. A good option is a waffle towel. It absorbs moisture well, does not retain sand, and dries quickly. Of the minuses: not everyone likes the touch.

Kitchen towels: take into account the characteristics of the material

In the kitchen, towels are needed for hands and dishes, and they are also useful for brushing away crumbs. When choosing, I recommend paying attention to the material - the characteristics of the towel depend on it.

Terry is best for hands. They absorb well, but are short-lived, do not wash well and leave a pile on dishes and glass.

Wafers are versatile and absorb moisture well. Suitable for any task in the kitchen. Among the shortcomings: high-quality towels with a voluminous waffle relief are expensive.

Linen is a great option for glasses and glassware. Linen towels do not leave lint, wear-resistant, absorb moisture well.

Types of towel fabrics

Depending on the method of weaving threads, several main types of towels can be distinguished, each of which has its own advantages.

Terry towels are woven into four threads so that thin loops form on the surface of the fabric. They give the accessory softness and volume. Terry towels attract with comfort, convenience, excellent absorbency, hypoallergenicity and resistance to washing.

Velor towels are obtained when, when weaving cotton into four strands, the terry is simply cut off. As a result, the surface becomes shiny, looks amazing. Velor towels are good for the skin of the face, but they absorb moisture a little worse than terry towels.

In the manufacture of waffle towels, another version of weaving is used, as a result of which cotton threads form cells on the surface of the fabric, as on waffles (hence the name). Such models also perfectly absorb water, are used for dishes, hands, glasses, etc.

A kind of revolutionary breakthrough was made by muslin towels. The softness of the texture with good density and bright designs immediately won the popularity and love of our hostesses. Muslin towels usually have a terry bottom layer. These towels are much lighter than terry towels, but at the same time perfectly absorb moisture. Dries faster. The price is lower. Composition: cotton 100%

The production of jacquard towels requires special machines that tightly weave cotton threads in a special way to form a pattern. Products are somewhat more expensive than their counterparts. Jacquard towels - double-sided, double-thread, can be both smooth and terry. Terry towels with a jacquard pattern often have small loops and look very stylish and beautiful.

5 rules for towel care

  1. Change regularly. Face towels - after each use, kitchen towels - every three days, bath towels - once every five days;
  2. Properly dry after each use - best of all on a special dryer in a straightened form. Wrong - crumpled or folded;
  3. Do not store for a long time in the dirty laundry basket. A towel is an ideal environment for the life of microorganisms. It is best to wash it immediately;
  4. Study recommendations for washing even cotton towels so as not to spoil the pile;
  5. Do not regret and throw away in time. Bath towels should be replaced at least three times a year, kitchen towels once a year.
