How to Stay Healthy on Vacation While Still Having Fun

For many, fitness regimes and healthy eating don’t go hand in hand with a holiday.

However, if you’re keen to stay healthy on holiday (without being a total bore!), there are some simple ways you can do this.

Find out how below:

  1. Eat Well Without Over-Indulging

When you’re on holiday, it’s so tempting to over-indulge. With so many delicious dishes to try, buffet breakfasts on offer and all-you-can-eat banquets to divulge in, you’ve got to have a lot of will power.

But there’s no reason you can’t try all of these tasty treats – you just need to exercise some control over how much you eat in one sitting.

For example, when you head to the breakfast buffet on the first morning, it may be tempting to pick up a croissant, egg, some cereal and fruit but try to limit yourself to one thing each morning. That way, you’ll still get to try everything but without consuming too much in one sitting.

  1. Book Fun Yet Physical Activities

If you want to exercise while you’re on holiday but without having to set your alarm ridiculously early to run before it gets too hot, consider what fun activities you could get involved in.

For example, you may find that horse-riding is a favoured pastime in the country you’re traveling to. So book yourself on a day trip and look for an equestrian clearance where you can get all the right gear.

Other fun ideas include surfing, yoga classes, trekking, biking, scuba diving – the possibilities are endless!

  1. Drink Plenty of Water

One of the ways you can consume lots of additional calories on holiday is by drinking a lot of alcohol. While you’ll want to enjoy a glass of wine (or two) with your meals, try not to fall into the habit of drinking heavily.

Instead, mix up your drinks with plenty of water so you stay hydrated. And, if you can, opt for lower-carb options like dry white wines and vodka.

  1. Get Enough Sleep

To make sure you don’t pile on extra pounds while you’re away, try to get as much sleep as you normally would. This may mean lying in longer in the morning because you’re staying up later at night, but this extra sleep will help keep your metabolism in check.

  1. Snack Smartly

While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having an ice cream on the beach or some delicious nibbles with your afternoon drink, try to stop yourself from snacking for the sake of it.

Before you dip into that bowl of crisps, ask yourself whether you’re really that hungry. If you aren’t, try to leave them alone.

Ultimately, staying healthy while you’re on holiday is all about trying to be sensible but without restricting yourself so much that you don’t enjoy yourself. Yes, you may put on a couple of pounds – but if you’ve enjoyed your food, drink and holiday, surely that’s worth it?
