The Light Garden, 1000 Year Bloom, Launches in Honolulu

Large scale digital light installations are in full effect all over the world, from Singapore’s Super Trees, to the Descanso Enchanted Forest of Light and Los Angeles Arboretum Moonlight Forest. Now the brilliant popular art movement has arrived in Honolulu’s Ward Village“The Light Garden, 1,000 Year Bloom” – which is becoming an overnight Instagram sensation, especially during this holiday season for those seeking a twist on the traditional festival of lights!

A few note-worthy details of the installation include:

  • It is the largest and most technology-forward art installation to be displayed in Hawai‘i
  • The immersive light garden is roughly 9,500 square feet (larger than the size of a basketball court) and made up of over 25,000 LEDs lights hidden within over 2,300 flowers.
  • “Light Garden, 1,000 Year Bloom”, a first-of-its-kind responsive light garden art display, is designed by nationally-acclaimed artist and technologist Alexander Green, founder of Symmetry Labs, whose work has been featured in the Smithsonian’s Renwick gallery and at Burning Man.
  • The Ward Village “Light Garden, 1,000 Year Bloom” is now open daily from 6:00PM -9:00PM and will remain available to the public – for free – through the end of January at Ward Village’s Victoria Ward Park.
