The Ranch Celebrates the Six Key Pillars Recognized During Lifestyle Medicine Week

Lifestyle Medicine Week, an annual celebration of six key behaviors that can have a profound impact on health, kicked off on May 21st and The Ranch, the renowned luxury health and wellness brand featuring award-winning, transformational structured wellness retreats, is proud to align with all six pillars. The lifestyle behaviors being spotlighted next week, each on their own day, include stress management, physical activity, nutrition, avoidance of risky substances, social connection, and quality sleep, all of which are a primary focus of The Ranch’s unique program.

With multiple locations and a variety of program options The Ranch’s structured daily schedule and nutrition program is perfectly aligned with the key pillars of Lifestyle Medicine. Program options range from 4 days to multi-week stays in locations including Malibu, Italy, a pop-up program this Fall in Vail, Colorado and a permanent location in Hudson Valley, New York due to open in March 2024.

Six Key Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine Essential for Optimal Health and Practiced at The Ranch:

Stress Management (May 21st)

As many guests visit The Ranch to escape their chronically busy lives, the program supports mental health in a variety of ways. The structured daily schedule removes all decision making so that guests are able to truly focus on themselves. Time in nature is a primary focus of the daily schedule, with a 4-hour mountain hike each morning.  Being in and around nature has been proven to help reduce stress, blood pressure and heart rate. Additionally, The Ranch provides tools for meditation beyond the program along with encouraging a detox from technology. 

Physical Activity (May 22nd)

Guests participate in daily 4-hour morning mountain hikes, afternoon strength and core training classes, along with restorative yoga. With each guest having unique goals and abilities, the hikes are done for time rather than distance and all classes can be adjusted in intensity so that everyone is challenged to their own level.

Nutrition (May 23rd)

The Ranch’s daily program is complemented by a nutritionally dense, plant-based diet that is a highlight for guests and a key component of the results-driven approach to health and wellbeing. The American College of Lifestyle Medicine recommends a plant-predominant eating pattern, and The Ranch’s daily menu is often the first experience guests have with eating in this manor for a prolonged period of time. Being able to feel the difference in their bodies and minds inspires many guests to incorporate more plants into their diets upon departure.

Avoidance of Risky Substances (May 24th)

Alcohol, processed sugars, diet sweeteners and of course smoking are just some of the substances excluded to aid in the cleansing and revitalization process. In fact, many guests use The Ranch as an opportunity to break long-engrained habits including smoking. 

Social Connection (May 25th)

The program’s proven approach prioritizes meaningful human connection and tangible results through personalized attention, a supportive environment and a nurturing community. Activities and meals are done as a group, and programs are limited to just 25 guests to maintain an intimate setting. Guests are encouraged to connect with both their fellow Ranchers and the program guides during their stay to build each other up and motivate one another to meet their goals. The programs foster lasting quality friendships amongst attendees.

Quality Sleep (May 26th)

Sleep is a key component in one’s overall health which is why it is prioritized during one’s stay at The Ranch. A built-in nap time is incorporated into the program and bedtime begins as early as 8 PM to ensure a full night’s rest ahead of a day of physical activity.
