Hotel d'Angleterre, Copenhagen's Grande Dame Closes for Renovation
And it is here prominent people such as Winston Churchill, Bill Clinton, Victor Borge and Oprah Winfrey have stayed. But now the hotel will temporarily close down for renovation – only to re-emerge as a unique premier deluxe hotel.

For more than 250 years Hotel d’Angleterre in Copenhagen has been the most elegant and exclusive place to stay for the night when visiting the Danish capital. Now the grand hotel will temporarily close down due to the largest ever hotel renovation in Denmark. Backed by a triple digit million Danish Kroner budget, Hotel d’Angleterre will upgrade every square meter in the old palace at Kongens Nytorv.

“Agreed, it is a bold move to close down during the Danish high season. But it is necessary. We have great ambitions for Hotel d’Angleterre and to honour them a brush up will not do. And since a thorough renovation will make a relaxing stay at the hotel impossible, we have decided to close down,” explains Michael Telling, senior advisor on the renovation and repositioning of the hotel.

The renovation will result in a true deluxe hotel; fewer rooms, but larger suites – one of them more than an impressive 250 square meters plus a large balcony, making it the largest suite in Copenhagen – two restaurants, two bars as well as more square meters for the day spa. The dècor will be contemporary classic to match the grand facade of the Hotel d’Angleterre – and everything will be topped off with the trademark exquisite service of the historic Copenhagen hotel.

“It is important to us that Hotel d’Angleterre remains the elegant lady of the hotels in Copenhagen – giving the guests a sense of staying in a stately private home in Denmark. We will scour the world for the perfect furniture, decoration items, mattresses and staff and add to that the perfect guest experience,” promises Michael Telling.

The hotel will re-open in the beginning of 2012, and until then everyone will be able to follow the progress of the renovation at Hotel d’Angleterres Facebook and Twitter accounts.
