10 Reasons to Visit Lake Placid's Whiteface Lodge This Summer

The term “vacation” originated in the Adirondack Mountains when 19th-century affluent families left New York City for fresh air and summer respite. Today, the AAA Four Diamond-rated Whiteface Lodge upstate New York captures the Gilded Age splendor of historic Adirondack Great Camps, reimagined for modern travelers.

Here are the top 10 things to do this summer:

  1. Birds of Prey Encounters (free for resort guests): Join a master falconer to interact with falcons, hawks and owls. Guests can hold the birds and learn about their habitats and rehabilitation stories.
  2. Canoe Club (free for resort guests): Enjoy beachside dining and complimentary canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, paddle boards, swimming, volleyball, badminton, tetherball, bocce ball, horseshoes, and life-sized Jenga at this exclusive Lake Placid beachfront facility.
  3. Tarot Readings (free for Peak 47 patrons): Gain insight into the past, present, or future with tarot card readings by a local specialist outside of Whiteface Lodge’s casual eatery, Peak 47. Available on select days throughout the summer.
  4. Yoga Classes (free for resort guests): Join outdoor yoga classes in the courtyard on most Friday and Saturday mornings through August.
  5. Paint and Sip ($25 kids, $35 adults for resort guests): Unleash your inner artist with painting materials, drinks and treats. Adults enjoy wine and charcuterie, while kids have hot cocoa and cookies.
  6. Ice Cream Parlor (free for resort guests): Cool off with delicious ice cream, available daily from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  7. Sports Courts (free for resort guests): Play tennis, pickleball, basketball, ladderball and cornhole. Courts are open daily until dusk.
  8. Fireside S’mores (free for resort guests): Nightly s'mores are a Whiteface Lodge tradition by the fire pits located by the Lean-tos, outside by the fountain and inside the Clubhouse Terrace.
  9. Movie Theater (free for resort guests): Three films are shown daily in the 56-seat surround-sound theater with complimentary freshly made popcorn.
  10. Bowling (free for resort guests): Enjoy the old-fashioned two-lane bowling alley. Reservations can be made upon arrival.
