4 Fun Family Travel Trips in Germany

Die familie will have plenty of fun taking a trip to Germany. Whether you visit one of the country’s many beautiful cities that provide numerous attractions for the whole family or you decide to spend your entire vacation at a theme park, Deutschland has you and the kids covered.

Here are four fun family trips to Germany you’ll want to consider.

1. Cologne

At around 2,000 years old, Cologne is one of Germany’s oldest cities. There’s plenty of fascinating history to soak up, but Cologne also has a lot of attractions that are great fun for families.

Firstly, Cologne is a great city to spend time walking around. You can take in sites like the twin-spired Cologne Cathedral, marvel at the city’s other Gothic architecture, walk along the Hohenzollern Bridge, which stretches over the River Rhine, or take in 360° views of the city from the KölnTriangle, which is a prominent landmark in Cologne.

The kids will love playing at the massive playground at the large urban Rheinpark. You’ll also want to check out the Odysseum, which is a science museum geared towards children, the huge waterpark of Aqualand, and the deliciously amazing Chocolate Museum.

Before you head to Germany, learning German online would be useful. You don’t have to become fluent, but just a few words and phrases will help you to enjoy your trip more. You can then ask questions about the chocolate-making process when you go on a tour at the Chocolate Museum!

2. Hamburg

Who wouldn’t want to visit the city that the hamburger is named after? Besides the ancient maritime history of the port city, and it's funky bars and restaurants, Hamburg can be a fun place for all the family.

Both children and adults will marvel at Miniatur Wunderland, which is the largest model railway and miniature airport in the world. The exhibit includes around 1,300 trains, more than 100,000 vehicles, and approximately 400,000 human figurines!

Hamburg is also home to the longest escalator in Europe, which children always love experiencing. And if you visit Hamburg in the summer, you’ll want to spend a family day at the beach by the River Elbe.

3. Stuttgart

In terms of the best place in Germany to visit with children, there’s probably no better city than Stuttgart. There are multiple family-friendly museums, lots of great playgrounds, hundreds of parks, and many fun festivals throughout the year.

Stuttgart is also home to the largest combined botanical and zoological garden in Europe. The Wilhelma Zoo contains an amazing 11,500 animals from around the world, including bears, rhinoceroses, and elephants.

Kids of all ages will also love visiting Sensapolis, which is the largest indoor playground in Germany. There’s a spaceship, a pirate ship, a castle, and dozens of climbing structures and slides.

4. Legoland Deutschland Resort

If your children love playing with Lego and you loved playing with Lego when you were a kid, you’ll undoubtedly want to take a trip to the Legoland Deutschland Resort. Located between Stuttgart and Munich, the theme park has multiple wonders waiting for the whole family to explore.

In Miniland, you’ll come across various Lego reproductions of German cities like Berlin and Frankfurt as well as several of the world’s tallest buildings, all built to scale. Amazingly, twenty-five million Lego bricks were used to build Miniland!

Other attractions at Germany’s Legoland include Lego City, Little Asia, Pirate Land, Kingdom of the Pharaohs, and Lego Ninjago World. There are also lots of fun rides, such as the Fire Dragon and The Great Lego Race.

You don’t have to worry about getting to and from Legoland during your stay because the first-ever Legoland Holiday Village is just a stone’s throw from the theme park.
