5 Reasons To Visit Catalina Island This Spring

Spring is finally here and that means warm sunshine, cool breezes and flowers galore! Southern California has come back to life after a very rainy winter, so what better time to visit Catalina Island. Here are five reasons why your readers should visit California’s Island Escape™ this spring –

  1. This year marks the 100th anniversary of William Wrigley Jr.’s investment in Catalina Island Company, the year he fell in love with Catalina Island and began to develop it into the resort destination it is today. To celebrate, Island Company has debuted TWO new guided anniversary tours giving visitors a look at the incredible history of the island –
    • Wrigley’s Catalina: Guests can enjoy scenic ocean and canyon views while exploring some of Avalon’s historic venues, such as the Catalina Country Club (which was the clubhouse for Wrigley’s Chicago Cubs and home to the Bobby Jones trophy) and the baseball field where Wrigley brought the Cubs for Spring Training.
    • Magnificent Mt. Ada: During this tour, guests will visit the same sites included in Wrigley’s Catalina, along with stops at the historic Catalina Casino and Mt. Ada (the former Wrigley Mansion).
  2. Foodies can enjoy a blast from the past, as the Catalina Island Company has reintroduced a selection of limited-time flashback menu items at all of their restaurants, such as Baked Pacific Swordfish à la Créole and Old Plantation Vegetable Soup, which were originally served back in the 1920s and ’30s.
  3. The Catalina Island Museum has debuted a new Wrigley’s Catalina: A Centennial Celebration exhibit, celebrating Wrigley’s first year on the island and highlighting his vision for Avalon’s development through old blueprints, photos and maps.
  4. Activities galore! Visitors to Avalon can test their balance on the new Catalina Aerial Adventure, soar over Descanso Canyon on the Zip Line Eco Tour, check out the island’s diverse marine life on the Undersea Expedition or take a trip down memory lane to the days when bands were big and movies were just beginning to talk at the historic Catalina Casino. On the island’s more rustic west end, guests can soak up the sun in a palapa at Harbor Sands or take advantage of the countless outdoor activities in Two Harbors.
  5. And finally, Catalina Island is absolutely gorgeous this time of year – especially with all of the rain we’ve had in the past few months. The island is SO green and the idyllic coastline makes visitors feel like they’re in Capri (minus the travel time).
