9 Items That the Globetrotting Fashionista Must Carry in Her Bag

Traveling is fun and even better when done in style. But with all that is involved in making it happen – the paperwork, the bookings, the planning, the packing – style can sometimes take a backseat.

Not if you are a seasoned fashionista though, who treats the world as her oyster.

A number of things are essential when traveling abroad. Almost everything seems like it is. But then there are the style essentials, and those are the ones we are talking about here.

So once you have checked you are carrying your passport, all your papers, the chargers, the meds, the noise cancellation headphones, and the eye pads, it’s time to pack your Mulberry handbag or Valentino backpack with these must-haves.

  1. The all-important cosmetics pouch

Because a fashionista must always arrive looking spic and span wherever she goes.

Since you will be carrying this on the plane, you want to keep it minimally stocked and the products in line with airline regulations.

This little bundle should contain everything you need to create a full face of makeup or the look you desire to sport when you land at your destination. Only carry small tubes and samples of what you need.

  1. Face mist/spray

What a wonderful invention this is! The air inside a plane can dry out your skin, making it look jaded and lifeless.

Just one spray of this miraculous product and the face starts to look dewy fresh. Use as often as needed.

If you feel the need to moisturize your skin frequently in daily course of life, then this product can work magic for you. If you are more or less happy with the pH balance of your skin or if it tends to get oily and grimy, not so much. Also bear in mind that certain face mists can dry out your skin, so buy one only after careful research.

  1. Dry shampoo

Because your hair can get horribly tousled as you sleep through the night, shifting in your seat restlessly. It might even look flat when it’s time to land and merely brushing it may not work.

Ever wondered how celebrities step out of planes after long flights with amazing lively hair, every strand in place? Well, certain hair products are working their magic behind the scenes, and you can bet dry shampoo is one of them.

Dry shampoo gives your hair an instant lift. Depending on the brand you have chosen, it smells phenomenal, and the hair looks fresh and bouncy in an instant, like you have just had a blow dry.

  1. Jewelry and accessories pouch

You only need to carry a small pouch with jewelry that you are actually going to wear on the flight. Everything else can go in the check-in luggage. Delicate accessories like Pearl necklaces need to be taken special care of and carried only in a solid pouch which prevents the accessories from degrading its quality. Also, make sure there is a cotton or silk cloth wrapping around it every time you place delicate accessories In the pouch.

Remember, minimal is not just comfortable, it is also classy, as long as the right pieces are chosen. Pearl studs work very well with an airport look, regardless of whether you are wearing your hair open or have it tied up in a bun. They also don’t get tangled in anything, which is a great plus. Diamonds look fabulous, too, but not everyone is comfortable traveling around in expensive jewelry. We would not recommend artificial jewelry for travel purposes, however, because it does not hold up well when exposed to water and chemicals, which travel very often does expose you to.

It’s best to carry your jewelry and assorted accessories in somewhat solid packaging to help prevent breakage or discoloration.

  1. Makeup removing wipes

As much as a fashionista loves her makeup, she doesn’t let it stay on her face any longer than necessary.

One might even question the need to wear makeup to the airport before a long haul flight. But sometimes one has to vlog, take pictures for keepsake, or just feel like a million bucks no matter where they are headed.

Remove the makeup as soon as the flight takes off, especially if night travel is involved. You don’t want the eyeliner to smudge (which is difficult to take off once that has happened), or the foundation to settle in your pores. Not only does old makeup look untidy, it is also unhealthy for the skin. Let the skin breathe, as much as it can in the pressurized cabin (and continue to hydrate yourself).

  1. Little perfume testers

You need to smell right, lady, wherever you go. Never ever forget to take your perfume(s) with you. Duty free airport shops are perfect for picking up testers which can be tossed in a carry-on bag. With beauty industry’s advancements, a wide variety of pocket perfume testers are available across the entire globe. So, keep one or two with you at all times.

fashionista scarves

  1. An oversized sweatshirt or warm scarf

Sweatshirts look cool, keep you warm, and are a style statement on their own when paired with leggings, jeggings, or skinny jeans. They are an in-flight favorite of many YouTube beauty and fashion bloggers.

But if it feels excessive to you, pick an eye-catching scarf instead. The scarf can be woollen, cashmere, silk, or polyester, depending on the weather and where you are headed. Cashmere and wool will keep you nice and cozy in the air.  Having 3-4 pairs of scarfs in closet will never fail to get you a dazzling look.

  1. Compression tights/flight socks

We have all been there. Spent a bit too long sitting, with our feet dangling, and felt sudden heaviness and pain when it was time to get up. The feet swelled up to twice their size!

Sitting for long hours, especially on airplanes, can trigger swelling, which is painful, and can take hours to subside. So, if you have plans right after you land, you will struggle. You might even struggle walking up to the baggage claim carousel. The longer the flight, the higher the chances and greater the extent of swelling.

Enter compression socks. Karlie Kloss swears by them!

They keep the blood circulation going and prevent swelling, especially useful for long haul flights but considering how important the right footwear is to a fashionista’s look, she would do well to carry these with her on flights or any kind of travel of shorter duration as well.

If you are prone to clotting on have a family history of it, these must find a place in your carry-on bag.

  1. A pair of designer sunglasses

Even the most well-groomed of women can have an off day. After flight delays or luggage gone missing you might not be in the mood to perk your face up. Enter sunglasses. They make everything better, don’t they?

They can give you a wow look just on their own. All you need is a fresh face, a lipstick, and you are good to go, even if your hair is unwashed and scrunched up.

Besides, you are traveling the globe! It could be sunny when you land in your tropical destination. You want to keep your delicate eyes protected from all the UVA and UVB rays.

To ensure style, first ensure comfort.

Traveling in style requires us knowing what we need the most and building on it. Some people need tablets to combat wind and bloating, others can’t do without their neck pillow. Find out what’s most important for you, take care of it, and then divert your attention to style essentials. A bit of trial and error will make you a pro in this regard in no time!
