A Pre-Opening Preview of The Langham, Chicago

A Pre-Opening Preview of The Langham, Chicago
Architect Dirk Lohan worked with his famous grandfather, architect Mies van der Rohe, in the late 1960s on the IBM building. Now that the building is a registered landmark, Lohan is once again involved in the project - this time converting the ground floor office space into a hotel lobby. This historic space will also feature furniture designed by Lohan, including a sofa pattern that Mies designed for his daughter in the late 1940's.

The Langham Hotel Chicago Travelle restaurant

Travelle, the Langham's restaurant and lounge, will feature Mediterranean-inspired cuisine by Tim Graham, formerly executive chef of Tru and Paris Club. While at Tru, Graham received 4-star recognition twice by Chicago magazine. This no-white-tablecloth restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner centers on inspiring cuisine that takes the diner from the coastal ports of southern France to the spice markets of Turkey, as well as a cocktail bar and lounge with live music Thursday through Saturday.

The Langham Hotel Chicago club lounge

David Rockwell and The Rockwell Group, known for their Tony nominated Broadway stage sets and innovative restaurant design, are behind Travelle's innovative design. Theatrical in their approach, Travelle restaurant, bar and lounge was inspired by the romance of the1960s corporate culture when IBM was the Apple of its day and cocktails were king. A deconstructed bar and rolling drink trolley put the period back into the room.

The Langham Hotel Chicago lobby

Ground Breaking Design, Literally. Chicago based architect of record Goettsch Partners and hotel interior designers Richmond International have reconfigured portions of the building by removing floors and creating double-height spaces. Note the second floor Pavilion Lounge and Reception (pictured), the third floor Devonshire Ballroom and even the insertion of a 4th-floor swimming pool.
