Katy Perry, Rihanna and Maroon 5 are the artists that are most often included in road trip playlists on Spotify, according to new data.
Research by the lifestyle team at Cycling Frog has revealed the most popular music artists and songs added to playlists that are specifically created for long journeys on the road.
With summer road trips on the agenda for thousands of Americans over the summer, Cycling Frog have analyzed nearly 10,000 songs from 50 of the most popular playlists on Spotify with ‘roadtrip’ and ‘road trip’ in the title, to find out what people most enjoy listening to whilst driving.
When it comes to the songs that most often appear in road trip playlists, Avicii’s Wake Me Up and driving classic Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd share the top spot.
Unsurprisingly, driving classics Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey and Drive By by Train also feature in the top 10.
The artists that most frequently appear on road trip playlists include international hotshot Katy Perry, Barbadian singer, actress, fashion designer, and businesswoman Rihanna, pop-rock sextet Maroon 5, country sensation Luke Combs and Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Bieber.
Parents are obviously choosing to keep their young children occupied on long journeys too, as Super Simple Songs also makes the top ten. A spin off of the Canadian YouTube channel and streaming media show created by Devon Thagard and Troy McDonald, Super Simple Songs’ release renditions of popular nursery rhymes and catchy cartoon tunes.
Commenting on the findings, Jason Peterson, Head of Brand at Cycling Frog said: “Before setting off on a long road trip you have to make sure you’ve packed and prepared all the essentials including water, snacks - and your favorite road trip playlist, of course.
“Individual music tastes really vary but the majority of people will agree that the perfect driving song has to be catchy, upbeat, and something you can sing at the top of your lungs. So we’re not surprised to find pop royalty and rock ballads in the top spots.”
