Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya, a luxury resort located in a private complex along the sparkling Caribbean coastline and surrounded by nature in Riviera Maya, Mexico, is introducing new wellness excursions for guests to reflect, relax and recharge in 2023. Recently introduced options for guests’ health-focused itineraries include Yucatán Peninsula-inspired spa treatments, personalized sessions with the on-site shaman and beachfront silent yoga along the Caribbean shore.
At the full-service Naum Wellness and Spa, a range of unique Mayan-inspired treatments are offered in a lush jungle setting with pristine ocean views. Guests can create their own ritual to optimal wellness, tied to an intention: He'lel (rest), Tsoolik (clarity), He'lel (rest), Muuk' (strength), or Molcintah (connection). New this year, Naum has added rejuvenating rituals using locally sourced ingredients:
Melipona Honey Massage and Mask Ritual: Melipona honey from stingless bees, native to the Yucatán Peninsula and used by Mayan healers, are used in this treatment for a full-body massage and face mask
Herbal Detox Massage: Aromatherapy reduces stress with an extensive blend of anti-inflammatory herbs
Cacao & Coffee Body Treatment: Powerful antioxidants found in Mayan cacao and coffee blend to promote youth and relaxation in this 75-minute body treatment
After Sun Treatment: Aloe vera and cucumber hydrate skin, promote a cooling effect, and reduce redness after beach days
Grape Stem Cell & White Tea Hydration Wrap: In this three-part series, dry brush exfoliation promotes lymphatic flow, followed by a grape stem cell, white tea and seaweed body butter wrap and concluded with a soothing scalp massage
Guests can further immerse themselves in the rich spirituality of Mayan culture with Fernanda Montiel, Andaz Mayakoba’s resident shaman. With generations’ worth of practices learned from her grandmother, Montiel creates one-of-a-kind mind-body-spiritual experiences for guests to deeply connect with their surroundings. Her signature rituals are focused on the number three, where each has a beginning, middle and end. The new shaman experiences are:
- Spiritual Session: Find harmony and balance with the help of the cosmos in this 60-minute session
- Shamanic Session: In this personalized session, the physical, mental and energetic powers allow for a transformational experience
- Mayan Meditation: This deep meditation is a moment of stillness and reflection using ancient Mayan meditative techniques
From scuba diving and snorkeling to eco-cruising and wave running, Andaz Mayakoba has no shortage of fitness and adventure experiences for guests to embark upon. The latest addition to these activities is beachfront silent yoga, where guests have unobstructed views of the pristine white sand and Caribbean Sea in a one-hour class. Available to novice and veteran yogis alike, each will receive noise-canceling headphones for uninterrupted focus as the instructor guides movements through meditative playlists, allowing for participants to fully focus inward.
Gourmands who savor every bite of their travels can indulge in the Mexican culinary scene with vegan offerings at the resort’s award-winning eateries Sotavento and Casa Amate, as well as the fully vegan menu at VB. Healthy and indulgent menu options include Estofado de Platano: roasted bananas in coconut milk with heirloom tomatoes; Casa Amate’s Yellow Soup with coconut, heart of palm, white tapioca, walnuts and a passion fruit reduction; and the signature VB Wrap: stuffed chaya leaves with sweet potato, alfalfa sprout, soybeans and a spicy pumpkin seed sauce. The resort offers weekly cooking classes through its curator calendar for those who want to get their hands dirty; chefs from the resort will teach attendees to make various vegan dishes like guacamole, tortillas and more.
