Aurora Expeditions’ BIG Arctic Climate Expedition with Dr. Sylvia Earle

This June, Aurora Expeditions is embarking on a groundbreaking Arctic voyage in partnership with Ocean Geographic and world-renowned marine biologist, oceanographer, explorer and environmental advocate, Dr. Sylvia Earle. The journey will take passengers on an extraordinary 13-day expedition deep into the Arctic, exploring Svalbard’s dramatic ice-carved landscapes and the remote wilderness where polar bears reign.

Hosted by Dr. Earle on her 90th birthday, the Bears, Ice, Glaciers, Arctic Climate Expedition (BIG ACE) will honor her lifelong advocacy for the world’s oceans while bringing together like-minded travelers, scientists, artists and storytellers to foster a deeper appreciation for the Arctic’s beauty and significance. On board, guests will engage with climate experts and naturalists, participate in inspiring discussions, and even take part in immersive activities like photography, fine art, writing workshops and public speaking. Off-ship, adrenaline-fueled kayaking and scuba diving experiences promise a front-row seat to the unique Arctic environment.

Setting sail from Longyearbyen on June 23, this Arctic journey will venture north beyond 80°N, weaving through a world of icy fjords and towering glaciers, including Austfonna, one of the largest glaciers on Earth. Each day will offer up-close encounters with Arctic wildlife, sweeping frozen landscapes, and thought-provoking discussions on how to better protect this fragile, rapidly changing region.

While the voyage is based on an application process where those interested in attending will be asked about the creative medium they will use to advocate for the Arctic, the expedition isn’t confined to scientists and researchers - people of all ages, nationalities, and educational and professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply to lend their voices.
