Last December, the team opened Hôtel Barrière Les Neiges Courchevel, France and is already preparing its new venture in the French Caribbean.

As Barrière continues to develop its hotel network around the world, the Caribbean is a strategic next step in cementing the brand’s reputation among leading French competitors in the luxury tourism sector. The group has taken over the renovation of the island’s most symbolic hotels, recently known as the Carl Gustaf – which closed in 2013 – and is slated to reopen at the end of 2017. The renovation will be overseen by Gilles & Boissier; two well-known figures the Parisian interior design field, have carefully incorporated local culture into the restoration while simultaneously merging contemporary touches into the structure of the buildings. Holding a robust portfolio, whose previous projects include the Four Seasons in Montreal and Mexico, the Mandarin Oriental in Marrakech and the Ritz Carlton in New York.

Overlooking the port in Gustavia, a stone’s throw from luxury boutiques, the finest restaurants in the Caribbean and the highly exclusive Shell Beach, the property will be surrounded by a verdant and tranquil tropical garden. The Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barts will offer two junior suites and 13 cottages (all are equipped with their own private pool). Nestled behind its colonial façade, a loft and a private villa await.

The first suite will feature three bedrooms, a swimming pool, private Jacuzzi and prime ocean view. The second suite will include six bedrooms and a private pool.

Like any Barrière property, the hotel will include celebrated facilities and services with two restaurants, a spa and a bar. For dining, guests can choose between Le Fouquet’s with its à la carte menu overseen by Pierre Gagnaire – one of the world’s most renowned modern chefs – and Shellona, a beachfront restaurant on Shell Beach, will offer a unique concept combining shared plates and a live DJ. In an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle while traveling, the Diane Barrière spa will feature a fitness center and yoga studio. Furthermore, the property partnered with Biologique Recherche, a prominent expert in cosmetic treatments who is represented in more than 50 countries worldwide, combining a clinical approach to personalized skin treatments with the use of pure products made with complex formulas that enhance the complexion. Upon spa visitation, guests will have the opportunity to create and personalize their own treatment.

The team will work diligently with all parties involved in the renovation to ensure Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barts is ready to open its doors by late 2017.
