Calilo, Greek Island of Ios, Debuts New Suite Collection & Rock Pool Experience

Tucked away in a remote corner of unspoiled Ios in the heart of the Cyclades, Calilo has just unveiled a property expansion in time for the peak summer season. Part of LuxurIOS, a Greek-owned tourism project that develops, owns and operates hotels, beach estates, villas and lounges on the island of Ios, Calilo opened in 2019 with 30 suites, multiple dining outlets, wellness offerings and exclusive experiences from private boat excursions to wine tastings, dinner under the stars and more.

New this season, owners Angelos Michalopoulos and Vassiliki Petridou, have introduced additional suites known as the EOS Collection, as well as three exclusive Rock Pools offering an alternative beach experience with unparalleled privacy. The enhancements are the personal vision of Michalopoulos, inspired by his design ethos as an artist and commitment as a hotelier to deliver an aesthetically unique product that respects the breathtaking traditional ways of cycladic architecture while accommodating the needs of the modern traveler.

As a family-owned sustainable hospitality company, LuxurIOS aims to preserve and protect the island of Ios from overdevelopment and as such, Michalopoulos has left 95% of the land untouched. The land that has been developed has been done in an environmentally-friendly manner with construction materials extracted from the ground of the actual building site, resulting in gorgeous marble and stone granite structures unlike any other resort destination.

EOS Collection

Designed exclusively for families and groups seeking private yet immersive accommodations, the EOS Collection consists of two signature suites that can be booked separately or connected together with two additional suites for a total of four suites to host up to 12 guests. Named after the ancient greek Goddess of the Dawn, this collection offers breathtaking sunrise views over Pappas Beach complete with a dedicated private entrance and parking, complemented by spacious marble interiors, one of a kind water features and waterfalls to enjoy the surrounding landscape.

Located on the hill side of Calilo with panoramic views of the resort and beach lies the Sea of Smiles suite named by Michalopoulos for its focus on water. From carved waves in the walls to unique water features, the design revolves around the connection to the sea. The 1,800 sq. ft. suite offers three bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms that feature deep soaking bathtubs, to accommodate up to six guests with an additional 2,700 sq. ft. of outdoor space including a dedicated sitting area, waterfall, outdoor natural rock shower and two swinging beds. The crowning feature is the standalone private swimming pool spanning over 500 sq. ft. made from individually handcrafted marble with over 65,000 pieces.

Adjacent to the Sea of Smiles is the Passage to Love suite. Named for its unique feature, a one-of-a-kind water passage spanning over 25 feet that leads to an indoor cave pool, the one-bedroom suite overlooks the gardens and mountains on one side and the beach on the other. Featuring one king bedroom with en-suite marble bathroom, the 800 sq. ft. suite is perfect for honeymooners, hosting up to two people with nearly 2,800 sq. ft. of outdoor space including a large marbled swimming pool made from over 55,000 pieces, an outdoor shower and double swing bed with a waterfall backdrop.

Rock Pools

Located in a secluded area overlooking the sea, guests will find three separate pool venues built into the natural stone landscape offering an alternative beach and dining experience. With natural shade protection from the sun and wind, the pools offer unparalleled privacy for groups of 30 to 50 people depending on the venue. Two of the venues, called the Dreamers Heart Rock Pools, take the shape of their namesake with distinct heart-shaped swimming pools, while the third is a round shape.

Complete with private bathrooms and kitchen, groups will enjoy a sitting area with dining table, dedicated butler for catering and bottle service, access to massage treatments, and various lounge options from swinging double beds to Calilo’s signature swings. Offering direct walking access to the beach, guests of the Rock Pools can come and go as they please to enjoy an ocean swim or utilize private golf cart transportation. Ideal for special events, the Rock Pools can be booked for marriage proposals, bachelor/ette parties and other milestone moments. Reservations are required and based on availability with priority given to hotel guests. Rates begin at 600 EUR for the space and service.

In line with the family’s commitment to sustaining Ios’ natural beauty, the Rock Pools were built from materials extracted from the ground and cut and carved by local craftsmen. In 2022, Calilo expects to debut up to 12 additional Rock Pools, furthering the variety of luxury guest experiences.
