Canada’s Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge Opens for the 2023 Season

Baillie Lodges’ Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, nestled in the remote wilderness of Canada’s Vancouver Island has opened for the 2023 season. The lodge will kick off the season celebrating two new prestigious awards, as it was recently included in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2023 Gold List and named one of the best hotels in Canada by Fodor’s Travel. The luxury eco-safari lodge will welcome travelers in 2023 with new guest experiences, a refined farm-to-table menu from chefs Mark Ota and Olivia Bolano and a reimagined bar, The Ivanhoe, with floor-to-ceiling windows that deliver magnificent views of Clayoquot Sound.

A new signature experience on offer for this season is Clayoquot’s Glacial Plunge, a cold-water immersion in the pristine Bedwell River that invites guests to practice mindfulness and stillness. Guests flow through different modalities that realign the spirit, mind and body connection. There are many potential benefits linked to this practice, including an energy boost, improved sleep, nervous system regulation and a strengthened immune response. Guests emerge from the water to a new appreciation of Clayoquot Sound’s magnificent natural landscape, its ancient rainforests reaching to the sky.

Chefs Mark Ota and Olivia Bolano are welcoming the new season with a refined farm-to-table menu featuring local side stripe prawns, bison tartare with spruce tip mustard, Kabocha squash tortellini and other dishes with local ingredients. In addition, new culinary offerings will include outdoor dining throughout Clayoquot Sound and an adventurous dining experience at the top of Ursus Mountain for guests to enjoy 360-degree views of mountains and ocean.

The lodge’s bar, The Ivanhoe, has been redesigned for the 2023 season through soft renovations and will feature new furniture and furnishings in a warm color palette. With floor-to-ceiling windows that deliver magnificent views of Clayoquot Sound, The Ivanhoe invites guests to enjoy fine wine selected from the master’s cellar or sip a special sunset cocktail made with spirits from one of the more than twenty British Columbia distillers’ products and house made syrups, bitters and tonics.

The team at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge led by General Manager, Sarah Cruse, is excited to welcome guests back to the property for the 2023 season. At Clayoquot, there’s an abundance of pristine nature freely available in almost every activity including hiking through old growth forests, horseback riding on scenic trails, and aquatic adventures such as paddle boarding and canyoning. Guests will also have the opportunity to unwind in the sanctuary of the Healing Grounds Spa and discover renowned local flavors that reflect the natural surrounds of Vancouver Island’s wild west coast.

“This is an incredibly unique and personalized experience,” Sarah Cruse said. “Our lodge empowers guests to enjoy the sound’s clear waters, breathe in pure oxygen from the lush conifer forests and embark on wildlife-spotting adventures.”
