Canoe Place Inn & Cottages Named One of The Best New Hotels in the World

Travel + Leisure has released its 18th annual “It” List recognizing the 100 best new and renovated hotels across the globe, naming Canoe Place Inn & Cottages one of the “Best New Resorts in the World” as well as one of “The 10 Best New Resorts in the U.S.” In-depth coverage is available online and in the May issue of Travel + Leisure, on newsstands April 21.

Jacqui Gifford, Editor in Chief of Travel + Leisure, said, "With a global group of honorees ranging from a mountain retreat in Morocco to a reimagined Miami icon, our annual “It” List is packed with hotels that are worth planning your trip around. This list is meticulously curated and researched, and we’re excited to share what earned these properties a spot on the coveted list.”

The site of America’s oldest inn, Canoe Place is a treasured Long Island landmark founded in the 17th century and known as the “First Stop out East.” Meticulously restored by established Long Island developers Mitchell and Gregg Rechler of Rechler Equity Partners, the team tapped some of the industry’s top talent for the momentous undertaking, partnering with independent hospitality management firm, Main Street Hospitality to bring Canoe Place to life.

Acclaimed design firm Workstead reimagined the interiors for the new build which opened in August 2022. The Inn offers guests luxury accommodations including 20 guest rooms and five guest cottages, regionally inspired fine dining at Good Ground Tavern, indulgent treatments at ONDA Spa, a pool and a beautifully renovated grand ballroom and pavilion spread across six meticulously landscaped acres.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized on Travel + Leisure’s prestigious ‘It’ List and in good company alongside many notable leaders in the hospitality sector,” said Mario Arakelian, General Manager of Canoe Place Inn & Cottages. “Canoe Place is rich in history yet reimagined for today’s traveler, and we look forward to the memories that will be made as we host a new generation of guests during our first official summer season.”

Canoe Place is recognized by Travel + Leisure editors for its close, 90-minute proximity from Manhattan.  Although boutique in size, the property is also praised for offering resort-like amenities including ONDA Spa and Good Ground Tavern, helmed by Relais & Château veteran, Chef Ülfet Ralph, serving Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

Spotlighting the 100 best new hotels and resorts that made the biggest impressions on Travel + Leisure editors and contributors, the 2023 “It” List features 35 hotels in North America, 32 in Europe, 13 in the Caribbean and Central and South America, 10 in Africa and the Middle East, 8 in Asia, and 2 in Australia.
