Casa Pestagua Opens Following Major Renovation in Cartagena, Colombia

Casa Pestagua, a historic 18th century colonial mansion turned luxury boutique hotel, reopens following a 15-million-dollar investment and major renovation. The updates breathe new life into the acclaimed hotel which unveils a refurbished lobby, restaurant, bar, fully equipped gym, and accommodations with the addition of five new suites.

Originally built in the 18th century, Casa Pestagua has been meticulously restored to its former glory, preserving its original Spanish colonial architectural features while incorporating modern amenities for the comfort of its guests. The hotel features 16 elegantly decorated suites and rooms, each with their own unique charm and character. Guests can enjoy a variety of amenities, including a lush courtyard with a swimming pool and a gourmet restaurant serving traditional Colombian cuisine.

At the heart of Casa Pestagua is its new restaurant and bar, “Ánima”, Latin for “the soul”. Set in a beautiful Moroccan-style interior courtyard framed by soaring arches, Ánima is overseen by Chef Heberto Eljach, one of the most venerated culinary talents in Colombia. Gastronomic menus celebrate traditional flavors of Colombia’s Caribbean roots, presented with global refinement in an atmospheric space.

The restaurant’s décor was updated to mirror the biodiversity and charisma of Colombia. The space features avian and botanical patters and seating in soft blue, white, and gray tones, contrasting with lush green vegetation. Soaring royal palms billow above with various species of orchids, symbolic of the country’s vast orchid population, the largest in the world.

The renewed energy and elegance flow into the Ánima Bar where expert mixologists captivate the senses with an exquisite selection of signature cocktails. With a touch of the mansion’s original terracotta color, the bar offers elevated seating with high-backed swivel stools and a beautiful wooden table in the middle for group gatherings.

The 11 spacious suites and five deluxe rooms convey a splendid Caribbean atmosphere with local architecture, contemporary and traditional furnishings, and Colombian art. The Count de Pestagua and Madariaga suites each feature three rooms, exclusive elevator access, and terraces with a private jacuzzi that offer breathtaking views of the city and the Caribbean Sea.

Casa Pestagua is now the sister property to Hotel Casa San Agustin, allowing guests to couple their stay and access each hotel’s unique amenities. Casa Pestagua is Colombia’s only Relais & Châteaux affiliated hotel. Set within the iconic Walled City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Casa Pestagua immerses guests in the vibrant culture, colorful architecture, and rich history of classic Cartagena de Indias.

These updates honor the hotel’s historic past, while seamlessly infusing the property with the energy and excitement of contemporary Colombian life. Room rates begin at $550 per night inclusive of breakfast.
