Songkran heralds the beginning of the solar year and is the most important annual festival for the people of Thailand. The festival is celebrated over three days from 13th to 15th April when Thais pray to the Buddha, clean temples and houses, offer alms to the monks and sprinkle scented water on elders as a mark of respect.
Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok is offering a special Songkran package of £93 (THB 4500) room only (not including taxes) staying in a spacious Grande Room with complimentary late check out until 4pm. The offer is valid for stays until 19th April.
Located at 250 Sukhumvit Road in the heart of the thriving city, after a day enjoying the Songkran celebrations, guests can retreat to the hotel's outdoor pool surrounded by lush tropical gardens or unwind with a massage at the Grande Spa. In the evening guests can enjoy a night of cocktails and dancing at the hotel's chic nightclub BarSu.
On the streets of Bangkok during Songkran the pouring of water washes away bad luck - so it is considered a blessing to be drenched. Fortuitously Songkran falls during the hottest time of the year so the water can be a welcome respite from the sunshine, but expect to get wet!
