Founded by wellness hospitality veteran Kevin Kelly, the CIVANA brand was born in 2017 out of a desire to make wellness more expansive and approachable to the next generation of travelers. Guests are encouraged to challenge themselves and to uncover their potential via four pillars – “Discovery & Enrichment,” “Healing Arts/Spa,” “Healthy Cuisine,” and “Movement” – that embody Kelly’s ethos of “wellness through oneness:” the sustainable interconnection of the individual, community, and natural environment. Less structured – by design – than other destination wellness resorts, CIVANA offers each guest the flexibility to create an impactful, immersive experience that best suits them; from devout students of wellness who want to dive deeper to those who are simply curious in exploring that realm a bit more.
CIVANA made its debut on March 6, 2018 as the first sustainable wellness resort to open in Greater Phoenix. The resort recently emerged from a multi-million-dollar renovation of its public spaces, 184 rooms, dining outlets, and the conversion of meeting spaces into state-of-the-art fitness, yoga, energy, movement, and enrichment studios. The project is an adaptive re-use of an existing resort – formerly known as Carefree Resort & Conference Center - incorporating a natural design palette and materials, while improving energy efficiency and the introduction of solar energy in its new spa building.
With new milestones on the horizon, CIVANA will debut a two-story, 22,000 square-foot spa on December 20, 2018 that will mark the completion of the resort’s transformative renovation. The expansive Spa CIVANA will become an integral part of the resort experience and incorporate one-of-a-kind, fully customized spa treatments. The spa will feature 29 treatment rooms, an adults-only spa pool and sundeck, and more. Other amenities will include a healing water circuit, WatsuÒ and lap pool, solar energy and water harvesting features.
With immersive programming at the heart of the CIVANA experience, guests can choose from an extensive selection of complimentary, wellness-driven activities offered daily. From “Movement” programs such as guided hikes, indoor group cycle, and aerial yoga, to “Discovery & Enrichment” options including sound bath sessions, intention burning, and introduction to crystals, to “Nourishment” workshops such as juicing 101 and meal planning, and much more, travelers are empowered to carve their own wellness journey.
The spiritual energy that permeates the region is present when guests step through the doors of CIVANA as they are greeted by a tranquil, yet contemporary lobby designed with Arizona’s natural beauty in mind. Adjacent to the lobby are two healthful dining venues that serve nourishing, farm-to-table culinary creations: Terras, the resort’s signature restaurant, offers locally sourced produce, grass-fed meats, sustainable seafoods, and decadent desserts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Café Meto offers energy-boosting breakfast and lunch items with several gluten free, grain free, vegetarian, vegan, anti-inflammatory, and gut friendly choices. An assortment of light menu options is also available to guests to savor poolside.
Other resort amenities include 23,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space, tennis and pickleball courts, and nearby access to top golf courses including Legend Trail, Boulders, Rancho Manana, and Dove Valley.
