Copenhagen’s Maison d’Angleterre Wins 'Cake of the Year'

Maison, Hotel d’Angleterre’s gourmet pastry shop, has been awarded “Cake of the Year 2026” at the prestigious annual Danish pastry competition, crowning the city’s best cake. The competition brought together around 100 pastry chefs, each tasked with creating 28 identical cakes, which were judged on both taste and appearance by a jury from the Copenhagen Pastry Guild.

Maison’s Head Pastry Chef, Freja Krarup Johansen, claimed the top honor for the second year in a row – this year for her creation, “Pineapple Twister,” made up of pineapple cream with lime, vanilla mousse, crunchy yuzu crisp, almond biscuit, and pineapple jelly with lemon verbena. She was also awarded the Creativity Prize in recognition of her exceptional ideas.

Maison also celebrates the achievements of pastry chef Sophia Nielsen, who secured second place with her cake, “Green Dream,” and pastry chef Benjamin Hansen, who was awarded fifth place for his cake, “Purple Rain.”
