Dude Ranchers’ Association Offers Saddle and Paddle Vacations

A “Saddle and Paddle” Dude Ranch Vacation is the best of both worlds! Spend time out on the trails AND out on the water! These ranches offer stunning landscapes to enjoy from the saddle or from the boat.

Marble Mountain Ranch | Somes Bar, California

For Marble Mountain Ranch, “All Inclusive” means that everything we do and all we offer is included in your California dude ranch vacation price. There are three separate land-based events scheduled during each morning of your stay: trail rides, arena games with riding lessons and shooting sports. In the warmer afternoons, we schedule water-based events: rafting, kayaking, or fishing.

Spotted Horse Ranch | Jackson, Wyoming

The primary activities at Spotted Horse Ranch are horseback riding and fly fishing. Horseback rides take you into the Gros Ventre Wilderness and Bridger Teton National Forest where you can expect to encounter wildlife such as deer, foxes, and bald eagles; incredible vistas from various vantage points; and a variety of terrain to ride through including pine forests, aspen groves, large meadows, and sagebrush flats. You can also fly fish right at the ranch on the Hoback River, or opt to go out for a guided fishing trip on the Snake, Salt, or Green Rivers. Whatever you decide, Monday afternoon casting lessons will definitely help you to become a great fly fisherman! In addition to these activities, you can also go to the Jackson Hole Rodeo on Wednesday evening, take a soak in hot springs on Thursdays, go on a rafting trip on Thursdays, and have two nights of live music at the ranch. The ranch also offers an all-day lunch ride on Tuesdays where you head up to Elk Ridge and have a lunch of burgers and hot dogs grilled on an open fire. With all these activities, you may find yourself wanting to just kick back and relax on the lodge’s deck with a good book and a glass of wine, taking in the surreal view of Beaver Mountain and the Hoback River.

Horseshoe Canyon Ranch | Jasper, Arkansas

There’s nothing like experiencing Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. “Your” horse will be chosen with your particular needs in mind, so you can comfortably enjoy each scenic ride. Enjoy canoeing down the Buffalo National River. Rock climbing is popular year-round, scale large cliffs and peer at breathtaking terrain that seems endless. Other activities include campfires, hiking, elk viewing, cookouts, shooting, Via Ferrata, zip-lining, river swimming, petting zoo, fishing pond, lodge games, and more. The ranch has a pool and hot tub, too! After a full day of activity, and three good meals, you can relax on your porch, hit the hot tub, or just snuggle down and sort out the day.

Drowsy Water Ranch | Granby, Colorado

Drowsy Water Ranch has kids’ programs from infants to teenagers with plenty of activities for adults and grandparents alike. There is a complete program of horseback riding, children’s programs, nightly evening entertainment, raft trips, trout fishing, western dancing, guided hikes, zip line course, campfires, staff entertainment, gymkhana rodeo, mountain biking, nearby golf, hunting and much more.

Majestic Dude Ranch | Mancos, Colorado

Get in touch with nature in the heart of Mesa Verde Country at Majestic Dude Ranch. Fish for trophy Colorado trout, share a horseback ride with your children and make memories to last a lifetime. Try your hand at our archery range, clay pigeon shooting, and a paintball and laser tag course. Tackle our rope challenge course for team building/family bonding. At night, you can watch a movie under the stars with freshly made popcorn, sing karaoke, dance, ATV games, swap stories, and roast s’mores.

Bar W Guest Ranch | Whitefish, Montana

There is so much to do at Bar W Guest Ranch for guests of all ages, and the ranch showcases the best of the West with the following activities: fly fishing lessons are offered on a trout-filled pond, and there are pike and perch stocked in Spencer Lake. There is a rowboat, canoe, and fishing equipment available. Hatchet throwing, 3D archery, and roping are always guest favorites. After a wagon ride, enjoy dinner in our gazebo overlooking Spencer Lake. Or, kick up your heels and stomp your feet during a night of line dancing. You can also see some of the most unspoiled wilderness on foot with a guided hike.
