Elizabeth Taylor’s Favorite Travel Destinations + Untold Travel Stories

Many know Elizabeth Taylor as a Classic Hollywood film icon, but she was also a passionate traveler who went on many luxurious adventures. Here are Elizabeth Taylor’s favorite travel destinations according to longtime assistant, Tim Mendelson.

Palace Hotel Gstaad, Switzerland: Gstaad’s far-away feel and sense of privacy were part of the appeal for Elizabeth Taylor, who bought a chalet with Eddie Fisher in 1962 and went on to become one of the town’s most prominent part-timers. In the ‘70s, Taylor and Richard Burton were Palace regulars, and Palace Hotel staff helped to manage her chalet when she was not there. Elizabeth owned Chalet Ariel until her passing in 2011.

The Dorchester, London: This iconic hotel was the backdrop for Taylor’s biggest career moments, including the call that confirmed she landed the role of Cleopatra (she was in the bathtub!) Guests can still stay in the same suite.

Beverly Hills Hotel: Known as the "Pink Palace," Taylor spent six of her eight honeymoons here. The hotel offers a rare glimpse into her glamorous personal life, where she and Richard Burton spent much time together.

Casa Kimberly, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: Taylor and Burton's romantic hideaway, where they built a bridge of love between their two villas, remains a luxury boutique hotel. The suite once inhabited by the couple, complete with Taylor’s iconic heart-shaped bathtub, is still available for guests.

Chobe Game Lodge, Botswana: The Chobe Game Lodge offers an unparalleled safari experience and its the site of Taylor and Burton’s secret remarriage.
