Experience Cultural Highlights & Heritage of Budapest with Anantara New York Palace

Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel is offering a program of cultural experiences which celebrate the fascinating topography of Budapest and Hungary’s distinctive arts & crafts heritage.

Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel is dedicated to supporting Hungary’s traditional legacy and unique Matyó Craft Heritage and encourages guests to immerse themselves in the county’s dedication to arts and crafts with special Matyó design workshops which teach guests the art of crochet and embroidery. Guests can also discover the secrets to creating Matyó jewellery with its celebration of old techniques merged with a contemporary aesthetic and create a piece of embroidery to take home. Matyó design and handmade products have brought to life forgotten patterns and undervalued talent, all of which preserve Hungarian heritage and provide work to women in Tard, a small northeast Hungarian village and UNESCO World Heritage Site. All pieces are handmade by local artisans and supporting Matyó design means supporting livelihoods with sustainable income opportunities and keeping the Matyó culture alive.

Culture seekers will delight in a unique VW Guided City Tour, travelling around the historic city in an old convertible VW Samba with an expert guide, stopping at iconic spots and lesser-known areas of the city, for the ultimate, charming experience seeped in nostalgia. The personalised tour can also include a stop at a beautiful park with a luxurious picnic basket filled with delicious bites, freshly prepared by Executive Chef Andras.

Budapest is most beautiful viewed from the Danube, and guests can hop on the water in a beautiful, small wooden boat for a Romantic Danube Journey down the river that runs through the heart of the city whilst taking in iconic urban views as well as the lush, green nature of the Buda hills. Guests can choose from a Budapest by Day or Budapest by Night journey. Budapest by Day sees guests take in the iconic panorama of the historical city center and banks of the Danube, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, alongside the Houses of Parliament, the Royal Castle, the Gellert Hill and the National Theatre and Palace of Arts. All whilst enjoying the beautiful detail of the Danube’s famous bridges. Budapest by Night takes on a magical atmosphere as guests board the wooden boat as the sun is going down and enjoy a light, delicious dinner prepared by Executive Chef Andras and accompanied by the finest local wines, against the glowing back drop of the twinkling lights of the city.

Located just a 20-minute drive from Budapest International Airport on the sophisticated Erzsébet Krt boulevard on the Pest side of the Danube River, Anantara New York Palace is comprised of 185 guest rooms and suites, accented by centuries old art and antiques. The opulent Anantara New York Palace was designed by the mastermind Hungarian architect, Alajos Hauszmann, and is an architectural ode to the Belle Époque era, exuding old-world glamour blended with contemporary luxury. Since its construction in 1894, this palatial building, and more specifically the ornate, world-renowned, New York Café, has acted as a gathering place for Hungarian intellectuals and artists. The soft renovation reveals a glamorous new lobby, stylish rooms and the addition of the White Salon, a glitzy restaurant serving quintessential Hungarian cuisine by András Wolf.  Upon its completion in summer 2022, a new Anantara Spa will offer guests an escape from the city to unwind in four treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room and 15m heated relaxation pool. Treatments will touch on the healing philosophies of Anantara’s Thai roots with elements inspired by the thermal bath heritage of Budapest.
