Aiming for a soft-opening at the beginning of June, the Oak Bay Beach Hotel is introducing the newest addition to their restaurant offerings, FARO hand-crafted pizza and tasting room.
Translated from Italian, FARO means “beacon” or “lighthouse”, a well-suited name for a location that has been a beacon for Oak Bay locals and visitors alike, where guests have gathered to enjoy Victoria’s most luxurious oceanfront accommodation, dining experiences and award-winning spa setting for over 90 years.
FARO replaces the hotel’s former Kate’s Café, expanding the space to become a 54-seat, full service restaurant with a 60-seat patio, which will open for morning café service, lunch and dinner.
“We know that Kate’s Café held a special place in the hearts of many locals and guests alike, who have been patiently waiting since November to see what this transformation will look like.” says General Manager Madone Pelan, “As with any change, we knew it would come with its own set of challenges, however we did not expect our re-opening to coincide with a global pandemic. With all other amenities at the hotel closed, we were able to thoughtfully dedicate our time to this project, and will slowly open, when it is safe to do so, bringing a fresh and exciting new vibrancy to our dining options”
FARO will be anchored by its Woodstone pizza oven and a seasonally changing menu that includes handcrafted pizzas, a variety of fresh salads and small bites, cocktails and local wines, all to be enjoyed in a stunning modern room, at the tasting bar or on the outdoor patio with fire features.
Drawing inspiration from the surrounding oak trees and coastal environment, the restaurant is highlighted by dark charcoal and green accents and plays with the natural light that shines through the original hotel windows.
The restaurant is currently preparing to open for take-out and delivery service beginning May 20, 2020, with opening hours from 12-8pm, Wednesday to Sunday. The team is currently awaiting further instructions and approval from the BC Government regarding welcoming guests into restaurant spaces.
