Finding Kos: Up Norway Debuts Slow Journey To Explore Norway from South to North

Finding Kos: Up Norway Debuts Slow Journey To Explore Norway from South to North

With the recent announcement that Norway’s borders should begin to reopen to fully inoculated U.S. travelers on August 10, sustainable luxury operator Up Norway debuts a slow journey that embraces the uniquely Norwegian term “Kos.”

For 28 days, the  experiences across the country embody this intangible concept of Kos. Peace and happiness, being wholly grateful and appreciative, Kos is a state of mind, a feeling that can be felt alone or with others. Kos is more likely to be achieved when one takes their time traveling, soaking in the simple joys of culture and natural beauty that can be found in Norway especially. To celebrate reopening and encourage travelers to find Kos, Up Norway is offering a special “Welcome Back” savings of 10% on its journeys taken between September and November 2021. Additionally, recognizing the need for flexibility at this time, Up Norway currently offers no penalty for postponement up to 18 months as well as the option to cancel for any reason up to 31 days in advance of a journey.

Over the course of four weeks, the new Up Norway Kos Journey allows travelers to explore the famed western coast of the country as well as the iconic Lofoten islands and the more exotic area of Finnmark in the far north. Incorporating many key elements synonymous with Norway, the journey features breathtaking scenery and arctic light, traditional food culture paired with Nordic gastronomy, a rich and forward-thinking culture, and the best of the best hosts in hotels and lodging.

Diverse locations each more remote than the last include:

  • Aurland / Lærdal - fresh air, green rolling hills and waterfalls are all within a UNESCO heritage fjord landscape. Guided experiences include a tour of the famed King’s Road and stave church, a fjord rowing experience and pasture farm hike.
  • The Sunnmøre Alps - the epitome of spectacular natural scenery where travelers will enjoy a fjord cruise with village visit, vineyard visit and lunch, a lefse (traditional Norwegian flatbread) baking course with a local resident and authentic Nordic massage.
  • Western Lofoten - joked by Norwegians to be “nature on steroids'' with epic vistas everywhere one looks. Travelers get active with a privately guided kayaking tour and mountain hike, a Lofoten fishing experience as well as a cheese making course at a goat farm.
  • Finnmark - in the northernmost reaches of Norway. Finnmark explodes into a bouquet of colors during the summer season, which is a stark difference from the battered landscape in the long, enduring winters. Depending on the timing of the journey, guests will enjoy the Northern lights and dog sledding in winter, whale watching in the spring or hiking, fishing and river boating in the summer. An introduction to indigenous Sami culture and their close bonds to nature and animals is a natural part of the experience.

Up Norway’s Kos Journey is suggested to be 28 nights long and encourages travelers to enjoy each stop above for one week each. Up Norway will adjust itineraries to travelers’ interests and preferences, as well as season.

The Kos Journey starts at $12,500 USD per person based on premium and authentic accommodations for 28 nights. Prices will vary depending on the number of persons traveling together, mode of domestic transportation, room / cabin / suite category, meal and activity inclusions etc. The “Welcome Back” savings of 10% is available on new bookings only. The promotion applies to the Kos Journey as well as any other Up Norway journeys booked for September 2021 - November 2021. For bookings made in 2021, Up Norway offers flexible provisional terms, allowing travelers to postpone their journey for 18 months if needed or cancel for any reason up to 31 days before the scheduled arrival date.  A nonrefundable fee of 10% or NOK 2900 (approx. USD $353) per person (whatever is lowest) applies for cancellations. For more information on the Up Norway Kos Journey, visit https://upnorway.com/journey/finding-kos-by-travelling-slow.
