For the Love of the City: Park Hyatt New York

For the Love of the City: Park Hyatt New York

Park Hyatt New York brings a sophisticated sensibility to contemporary luxury, with thoughtfully designed spaces, a notable art collection and experiences that are individually curated with an exquisite eye for detail.

There are few places where the energy and elegance of New York come together quite like West 57th Street. Central Park is just a short walk away, Carnegie Hall sits directly across the street, and high above it all, Park Hyatt New York offers its own interpretation of the city.

From the moment I arrived, there was a sense of being very much in New York, yet comfortably above its constant rhythm. The hotel feels sophisticated without being showy, with a residential quality that makes it easy to settle in. Outside, Midtown is moving at full speed; inside, the pace changes, but the connection to the city remains.

Rather than creating an alternate world behind its doors, much of the hotel's personality comes from the city itself, from the artists whose work hangs on its walls to the New Yorkers who work within them and the events that temporarily transform its public spaces. It is a hotel that embraces its surroundings rather than simply relying on them. At Park Hyatt New York, Manhattan is more than an address; it is part of the hotel's identity.

A Suite Take on Manhattan

Park Hyatt Residence Wall of Books

Park Hyatt New York occupies the first 25 floors of One57, the 75-story landmark skyscraper rising above a stretch of Midtown known as Billionaires' Row.  The 210-room hotel opened in 2014 and, a decade later, marked its anniversary with a renovation that produced its most ambitious accommodation yet: the Manhattan Suite.

Located on the 25th floor, the 2,000-square-foot suite represents a $10 million investment and can be combined with two connecting suites to create a 3,500-square-foot, three-bedroom residence accommodating up to ten guests. Nearly 18-foot windows take in Manhattan and Central Park, while two balconies provide private outdoor space high above the city.

Designed by New York-based Sawyer & Company, experiencing this residence firsthand was a highlight of my stay. I loved imagining what it would be like to entertain here, but what I loved most were the more than 50 books devoted to New York and the art found throughout the suite, adding yet another personal connection to the city.

My own suite took its design cues from Central Park, bringing a sense of the outdoors into the space through warm woods, natural textures and a soft neutral palette. A thoughtful selection of welcome treats was waiting when I arrived, a lovely start to my stay. Etched glass panels separated the living area from the bedroom without interrupting the flow of light, while the spacious pale-stone bathroom featured an elegant freestanding soaking tub. Together, the natural elements gave the suite a cozy, residential feel and a quiet connection to the park just outside.

Dining in the Heart of the Hotel

I found myself gravitating to The Living Room, an elegant and comfortable gathering place that moves effortlessly from breakfast and lunch through afternoon tea and dinner. I loved the elegance and comfort of the room, with sofas, armchairs and dining tables that give it a residential quality that suits a hotel whose interiors frequently take their cues from Manhattan living.

Each meal during my stay was polished without feeling overly formal, with a setting that allowed the evening to unfold without the stiffness of a traditional hotel dining room.

Serenity Above the City

Wellness takes several forms at Park Hyatt New York, including Rossano Ferretti HairSpa on the eighth floor. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring Manhattan into the salon, giving the experience a distinctly New York backdrop, while a private room for shampooing offers a more intimate setting away from the main space. The combination of city views and privacy gives the HairSpa an elevated character that feels uniquely glamorous and perfectly suited to its setting within the hotel.

Twenty-five floors above the city, Spa Nalai provides a quieter counterpoint to the hustle and bustle below. The intimate spa has two treatment suites, including one overlooking Central Park, along with a relaxation lounge, eucalyptus steam room and whirlpool.

The word Nalai comes from the language of the Lenape people, Manhattan's original inhabitants, and means "serenity." Redesigned in 2025 in collaboration with French beauty brand KOS PARIS, the spa features bespoke KOS PARIS products made with rare, carefully cultivated plant ingredients sourced from around the world. The KOS PARIS formulas reflect the brand's holistic philosophy of nurturing beauty from within.

The adjacent indoor saltwater pool looks out across Midtown, with underwater speakers playing a specially curated Carnegie Call playlist, one more playful connection to the hotel's famous neighbor across 57th Street.

Love All

Tennis Centerpiece

New York is a city that changes with its calendar, and when the US Open arrives, tennis makes a brief but conspicuous appearance at Park Hyatt. During my stay, tennis balls filled tall glass vases among green and white flowers, rackets became part of the lobby displays, and The Living Room carried the theme onto the plate with a dessert fashioned as a miniature tennis court.

There is more behind the display than tournament spirit. Park Hyatt New York partnered with John McEnroe's Johnny Mac Tennis Project, which works to make tennis more accessible to under-resourced young people across New York City. For one week, one of the city's great annual sporting events had crossed the East River from Queens and worked its way into a Midtown hotel.

New York State of Mind

What stayed with me most about Park Hyatt New York was how naturally the hotel seemed to fit into my time in the city. Some of my favorite moments were also the simplest: settling into my suite, lingering over dinner in The Living Room, or looking out at Manhattan from high above the streets. The connection to the city came through in small details and unexpected moments throughout my stay.

New York is endlessly fascinating, exciting, and fast-paced, but returning to a cocoon of calm offered its own kind of pleasure. A cup of tea in The Living Room, a swim in the pool with the music of Carnegie Hall playing beneath the surface, and the feeling of being both in the city and slightly removed from its pace have become part of my New York story in a way that feels effortless and entirely my own.
