Going the Extra Mile to Find the World's Best Wine

For those looking to go the extra mile in choosing wine for the Christmas table, travel specialists at New Zealand In Depth have launched a new opportunity to travel around New Zealand to visit the homes of 2018’s top tipples, as awarded by the prestigious Air New Zealand Wine Awards.

In store for the new food and wine experience are four of New Zealand’s (and the world’s) leading wine regions including Waiheke Island, Hawke’s Bay, Marlborough and Central Otago. At each, guests can visit the cellar door, tour and join exclusive food and wine experiences that are all designed to celebrate 2018’s best bottles.

“New Zealand produces some of the best wines in the world and what better way to celebrate them, than to embark on a journey through its wine regions with the aim to visit all of the award-winning wine makers from this year’s awards,” says Paul Carberry, founder of New Zealand In Depth. “And for those traveling this December, you will be able to hand pick your favorites for the festive season – as well as stock up for 2019!”

One stop on the itinerary is at the home of the overall winner at The Maude where guests will sample The Maude Pinot Noir Central Otago 2017 which won the New Zealand Wine of the Year.  Head judge at the New Zealand wine awards, Warren Gibson, said the Maude Pinot Noir 2017 was "A delicious and complex young wine, juicy and light on its feet” said Mr Gibson. “Showing beautiful refinement, powdery tannins and loads of controlled power. Pure class."

The new 14-day food and wine itinerary developed by New Zealand In Depth, takes guests from Auckland in the North Island, to Queensland in the south; staying at luxury lodges and quality accommodation known for its fine locally influenced food and wine; coupled with gourmet food experiences.

Created by local travel experts and wine enthusiasts, the new 14-day itinerary costs from £3,250 per person excluding international flights. This includes all accommodation in a mixture of luxury lodges and quality B&Bs, transfers or car hire, food and wine experiences throughout, and any internal flights.

A shorter version of the tour can be achieved visiting some of the award-winning venues and as with all trips designed by New Zealand In Depth, any itinerary can be personalized to include guests preferred activity, wine and dining preferences.

Paul Carberry, founder at New Zealand In Depth, said; “Whether as a trip in 2019, or to squeeze in a pre-Christmas tour, our team will arrange an adventure to experience the best food and wine the New Zealand has to offer.”
