Horses & Horsepower: Barrett-Jackson Preview To Star At Scottsdale Polo Party

Bringing some of the horsepower for this “Horses & Horsepower” event, Barrett-Jackson will be previewing three of their featured cars. They include a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air, a 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom, and a 1939 Alfa Romeo.

“We've been involved with this signature polo event from the outset. It provides a great platform to begin on promotions for our Scottsdale event in January,” said Barrett-Jackson CEO Craig Jackson.

Considered to be one of the best in the world, the 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air custom two door post features a black and red custom paint and fabrication by Kreations, interiors by Jon Lind, and wiring by Painless Performance Wiring. Designed by Jason Rushforth with an Art Morrison chassis and brakes by Wilwood Engineering, the car features a GM 572 with an 8-track EFI, 665hp on the dyno and Keisler 5-speed TKO 600 transmission. This unique ride was built by Kreations with plating by Advanced Plating, 3” polished stainless exhaust, a polished stainless fuel tank, and Toyo tires with wheels by Budnik. If those credentials don't impress you then consider the numerous awards the car has won including Goodguys Scottsdale 2006 Boyd Coddington Pro Pick and Goodguys Del Mar 2007 Best Bitchin' car. This Chevrolet was a 2008 invite to the Blackie Gejeian Car Show in Fresno and has made television appearances on “American Hot Rod” and on a SPEED telecast with Craig Jackson at SEMA 2006.

The 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom on display is a one-off example that was delivered new to a Mr. G.M. Church of Pasadena, CA on October 10th, 1929 and later owned for many years by Mr. Lester Braunstein of Beverly Hills, CA. This car is featured in John Webb de Campi's book “Rolls-Royce in America” with a picture taken circa 1950s and a picture in the 1970s with former owner Lester Braunstein. This Ascot is clearly one of the most desirable American-made Rolls Royces created and this car the most unique of them all. Of the 21 Ascot Phaetons built, this example is the only Ascot with roll up windows, the adaption performed by the renowned Murphy coachworks of Pasadena, CA. This original chassis, body and engine example was the subject of an extensive restoration spanning years and the car has been the recipient of numerous awards, trophies and honors. The Ascot phaeton has proven to be one of the most exquisite designs of the classic era. Its finely crafted lines, accented with polished aluminum beltlines, combine with the graceful wire wheels to make this one of the most stylish phaetons of the era.

The 1939 Alfa Romeo is one of 13 similar examples built by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan between 1930 and 1940 and was imported into the United States by Earl Potter, of Chicago, IL, in 1962; it was later purchased by Mr. John Jumer, of Elkhorn, WI and Chicago, in 1965. In 1990, the Alfa was acquired by Charlie Morse & Malcolm Harris, a world renowned Alfa Romeo expert, who commissioned a restoration carried out by a number of Seattle-area craftsmen beginning in 1994, and it was finished just before the 1998 Pebble Beach Concours d ‘Elegance. Mr. Harris was personally involved with the disassembly and reassembly work, and over 1,500 of his own hours were invested in this masterpiece. So intensive was the body-off restoration that the chassis was completely disassembled and every piece was refurbished to concours quality. The results of the restoration were recognized by a Second in Class Award, as well as the Most Elegant Closed Car Award at the 1998 Pebble Beach Concours d 'Elegance. At the 2004 Ironstone Concours and the 2004 Kirkland Concours, it was again awarded the Most Elegant Closed Car. Finally, at the 2012 Quail Motorsports Gathering, it garnered Best Pre-War Alfa Romeo, a testament to the elegant Touring lines, as well as to the quality of craftsmanship employed in the restoration. This Alfa Romeo was awarded Best of Show at the 2012 Danville Concours d ‘Elegance.

These remarkable items in car history are not typically shown before the Barrett-Jackson show, but they will be on special display during the Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati Polo Championships on November 1st-2nd at WestWorld.
