Hotel Eden in Rome a hotel within the prestigious Dorchester Collection, is set to re-inaugurate its Piccolo Cinema Eden, curated by Chez Dédé, the creative duo of Andrea Ferolla, Hotel Eden’s Artist in Residence, and Daria Reina.
Twice weekly until 27 March 2022, coinciding with the 94th annual Academy Awards in Hollywood, the Hotel Eden’s elegant La Libreria will be transformed into an intimate 26-seat cinema showing classic films rooted in Rome, such as The Great Beauty, Roman Holiday, and Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow or in Italy such as Il Gattopardo and in the Mediterranean such as La Piscine. The screenings will take place on the days traditionally dedicated to cinema – Wednesdays (at 7:30 pm) and Sundays (at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm).
In celebration of renowned Italian director Federico Fellini, 8 e mezzo (1963), which took home the Oscar for “Best Foreign Language Film” in 1964, will bring this film festival to a close. Fellini loved the top floor of Hotel Eden and its enchanting view of Rome, choosing it for his many press interviews over the years and rendering Hotel Eden famous all over the world.
Chez Dédé sought to reinforce Hotel Eden’s historic link with the world of cinema by proposing to showcase the theme of Rome and Italy, both as an undisputed protagonist and a classic backdrop in cinema. Guests can enjoy viewing iconic and arthouse films in a cinematic theater modeled on the past — an intimate and nostalgic environment, elegant and comfortable sofas, precious velvet curtains that descend softly from the ceiling, and “ushers” in bespoke uniforms created especially for the occasion, all create an unforgettable experience.
Costing 40 EURO, tickets to the screenings include special gourmet popcorn, sweet or savory, created by executive chef Fabio Ciervo, accompanied by a mini bottle of Moët & Chandon Champagne. There will also be a trolley from which guests can select from a range of snacks thought up by Ciervo.
In addition, those attending the afternoon Sunday screening have the option of a pre-cinema brunch created by Executive Chef Fabio Ciervo with entry to the Piccolo Cinema Eden (3:30pm screening) at a special rate of 105 EURO instead of 125 EURO.
Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty is also part of the film program, as an original interpretation of Rome that earned him an Oscar in 2014 for “Best Foreign Language Film” and which has been critically defined as a modern version of Fellini’s La Dolce Vita.
The carefully-designed program includes the classic film Roman Holiday which stars Audrey Hepburn sashaying along the streets of Rome with Gregory Peck, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, that was awarded the Oscar for “Best Foreign Film”, by Vittorio De Sica with the extraordinary pair of Loren-Mastroianni, as well as Il Gattopardo by Luchino Visconti based on Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s novel of the same title, starring Alain Delon and Claudia Cardinale.
With Piccolo Cinema Eden, Hotel Eden consolidates its bond with cinema, and honors its 132 year history of welcoming iconic personalities from the world of entertainment such as Director Orson Welles, the charming Ingrid Bergman who lived in the Aurora Terrace Suite for quite some time, as well as world-famous actress and dancer, Ginger Rogers.
