Hotel Kämp Offers Old-World Finnish Luxury in Helsinki
The park itself edges onto the Helsinki Port and Marina which aside from being beautiful features a charming market ideal for picking up Finnish souvenirs and tasty treats.

Part of the Starwood Luxury Collection, Hotel Kämp possesses classic furnishings and impressive grandeur without being pretentious or stuffy. It is also ideally located for walking and wandering around the city’s main highlights, making it a popular choice for the discerning traveler.

We took a taxi from the airport and our chatty Finnish cab driver told us that Helsinki was a great city to explore but that we simply had to return to visit the Northern regions of the country to truly see Finland. After perusing a multitude of photographs, I have added it to my ever-growing travel wish list.

At Hotel Kämp, we stayed in a Premium Deluxe Room which are all located on the top floors of the hotel. Although there was not much to boast for a view, the room offered elegant interiors and a spacious design all centered around an inviting and a plumped up cushioned bed that is the kind you just want to throw yourself on and melt into after an arduous journey.... I did just that.

Of course the spa is the next best place to relax but our time was limited so I had to forgo my pampering urges... I had my eye on the Kämp Signature treatment, “Relax all your senses in the Northern Wilderness” featuring a full body exfoliation, aromatherapy massage and paraffin wax treatment to name but a few of its highlights!

Hotel Kamp Helsinki

The Hotel features a popular and traditional Brasserie and Bar which is a contrast to the alternative Yume Restaurant with its funky interiors and modern Asian fare. Outside the hotel a dining highlight was across the park at restaurant Kappeli, one of the oldest establishments in the city dating back to an opening in 1840 which is popular amongst tourist and locals alike due to its history and five star cuisine. High ceilings and a conservatory style entrance greet you and the large floor to ceiling windows allow for a brightly lit and atmospheric setting. Ask for a table by the window if there are any free, which face directly out over the Esplanade Park.

As two foodies faced with an unfamiliar menu, a young Finnish couple overheard us deliberating our choices and leaned over to offer some suggestions as to what to order to enjoy a true Finnish meal. We took them up on all their suggestions and weren’t disappointed with the Kappeli fish assortment to start or the deer for our main, although the latter we were informed is a typically Northern dish. Our experience at Kappeli was a testament to our experience of Helsinki on a whole, warm friendly people in cultural and picturesque surroundings.
