The town of Harmony was founded in 1869 around a burgeoning local dairy industry and was home to the Harmony Valley Creamery Association for close to half a century. When the creamery closed and dairy production transitioned primarily from the Central Coast to the Central Valley in the mid-20th century, much of its population dwindled. The area underwent several periods of relative dormancy before becoming the charming small town it is today. Encompassing just one block and 2.5 acres, Harmony is home to Harmony Cellars, Harmony Valley Creamery (and its famous Scoop Truck that travels all over San Luis Obispo County), Harmony Glass Works, Harmony Pottery Studio and Gallery, and Harmony Chapel & Gardens.
