Hotel San Luis Obispo, a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of San Luis Obispo’s vibrant downtown, has partnered with Harmony Cellars to offer guests an enchanting experience in the tiny, picturesque town of Harmony, CA, population 18. Hotel guests that book the SLO In Harmony package will receive 15% off a two-night stay in one of the property’s guestrooms or suites (Sunday-Thursday), complimentary wine tasting for two at Harmony Cellars, club member discounts at the winery for the day, and the opportunity to explore a little known, but long-established, town located just 30 miles up Highway 1 from the town of San Luis Obispo.
“Harmony Cellars is a small, family-owned winery that produces excellent wine in a town with a rich history that’s totally off the beaten path,” said Circe Sher, co-founder of Piazza Hospitality. “A big part of our philosophy is to act as a cultural concierge to our guests and provide opportunities for more than a traditional stay. We are delighted to introduce guests to Harmony. Through this experience they will certainly feel a unique sense of place. The partnership provides an opportunity to really showcase the area’s distinct flavor through Harmony Cellar’s wine as well as the town’s local art scene and historical sites.”
The town of Harmony was founded in 1869 around a burgeoning local dairy industry and was home to the Harmony Valley Creamery Association for close to half a century. When the creamery closed and dairy production transitioned primarily from the Central Coast to the Central Valley in the mid-20th century, much of its population dwindled. The area underwent several periods of relative dormancy before becoming the charming small town it is today. Encompassing just one block and 2.5 acres, Harmony is home to Harmony Cellars, Harmony Valley Creamery (and its famous Scoop Truck that travels all over San Luis Obispo County), Harmony Glass Works, Harmony Pottery Studio and Gallery, and Harmony Chapel & Gardens.
Harmony Cellars offers award-winning artisan wines and a tasting room overlooking pastoral views of the coastal countryside. Founded in 1989 by Chuck and Kim Mulligan, today it is a 7,500-case boutique production facility offering Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Cabernet, spicy Zins, and Port, with Winemaker Chuck Mulligan at its helm.
Guests looking to explore a short distance past the town are also encouraged to hike Harmony Headlands, walk Fiscalini Ranch Preserve in Cambria, tour the Piedras Blancas Light Station, or visit the Elephant Seal Rookery located along the San Simeon coastline.
Hotel San Luis Obispo guests will return from their day trip to Harmony to a spacious, modern, relaxed suite or guestroom with furnishings inspired by the region’s ranch and beach lifestyle. The property offers a 50-foot garden terrace swimming pool and jacuzzi, an eco-friendly spa, an expansive rooftop bar and accompanying lounge, and two onsite restaurants – Piadina and Ox + Anchor.
